Vibes for Peanut

I came home from running errands and noticed my black and tan female Tabby cat didn't want to sit down and meowing with an urgency.... Watched her for about half an hour and made the gut call to take her to the emergency vet. Vet felt her bladder was swollen and took her to drain the bladder. Came back and told me she is trickling while draining and most likely has a urinary blockage.

*sigh*

They'll let me know how she's doing tomorrow.

and thank goodness you were home and noticed. And bless you for getting the e-vet so quickly. I hope everything is resolved quickly. My boy had struvite crystals. He never blocked, but, thanks to Hills CD, so far so good.

I don't now why these things never happen on a weekday, though - my trip was on Labor day

My boy, Simon, is slowly getting over a severe urinary tract infection. So, I know what you're going through. Much love to you and your kitty. Thank God you were able to notice the problem when you did. I feel we must always listen to our gut instinct when it comes to these things because they can't always tell us when something is wrong. Prayers and good vibes to you!

I hope it's not crystals. I hope it's just inflammation from the UTI making it hard for her to pass urine. The rX foods do what they're supposed to but could have higher quality ingredients. Mother has a boy siamese that had a severe blockage and severe kidney & lower UTI and is on the SD c/D for almost 10 years now.

Thanks for the well wishes

I hope you find out good news tomorrow!

Vet called late last night and told me her urine is loaded with crystals. Didn't think to ask if they were calcium or struvite. Will ask when I call this morning to see how she's doing.

She goes in to surgery this afternoon. She has at least 5 that are too big to pass and several more smaller stones. They will be sending them out for analysis but most likely the stones are struvite. She had some seeping into her abdomen so they are going to try to figure out and repair that problem too.

They let me spend some time with her this morning. It's hard to keep it together right now. I'm so scared for her. I can't believe how fast this appeared, even though I know the stones have been forming for awhile. She was fine until last night. I can't stand the thought of losing my best friend.

Oh Hun, just take it one thing at a time. You caught it and got her right in. You are a good meowmee.

The crystals can be controlled by diet. I had two kitties who were crystal kitties. We should have our own club!

I am keeping you and Peanut in my throughts and prayers today. She is in very good hands.

Oh, I hope you get good news soon. As I mentioned, my boy had struvite crystals, but has been eating Hills C/D and knock wood, we're all good.

Peanut.

I too have a struvite kitty. The only food that keeps her healthy is Hills Prescription c/d.

The ingredients may seem crappy, but it's the lesser of two evils, and Mazy cat is doing okay on the c/d.

Thank you everyone... I'm waiting, trying to hold it together ... if she's not already in surgery, she should be soon. So all I can do right now is wait and pray.

I'm not ready to say good bye to her and can only pray that there are no complications and she pulls thru this ok... thanks again because it means so much that you all care... It was hard enough going thru this with my mom's siamese 10~ yrs ago. When it rains, it pours.

It's awful, the waiting.......I know. All paws crossed the surgery is uneventful, and she will be home with you soon.

Peanut

And some for you toocazlee

These are a couple of pictures of her I'm sorry if they're too big. I couldn't quickly find anything about a size limit on pics.

Awww....! She's so beautiful! What gorgeous green eyes, and I love how she's showing off her Yummy Tummy in the second one.

AW Sweetie, what a hard afternoon. But, thank God you got her to the vet when you did, the poor baby. All will be alright, will be waiting to hear the news after the surgery.

She made it thru surgery and the vet advised she took x-rays post op and is confident she didn't miss any stones. Any little ones not on the x-ray are small enough to pass on their own. The vet isn't worried about further urine seepage, there were no other serious problems with her urinary tract that she could determine.

She may be ready to come home by Wednesday.

I'm so glad that the surgery went well for Peanut. She's a beautiful cat! I bet she can't wait until Wednesday to come home to you

Thanks for the happy update! It must be so lonely at home without her. Continued vibes for a Wednesday homecoming.

Thank you everyone

I just got back from a post-op visit. She's doing very well and was very responsive to Momma (me) being there with her. She got some loving and cuddles to reassure her Momma isn't leaving her there forever, just until she's well enough that the vet says she can come home She'll be on c/D or x/D or equivalent for quite awhile ... but I'll have her with me for quite awhile so what more could I ask for?

Her sisters (2 feline and her canine that thinks she's a feline sister) miss her and have been looking for her all day.

I can't wait til she comes home. Hopefully Wednesday ... But if they feel like they need to keep her longer, so be it. I would rather spend a little more now on room/board/care than have to rush her back in because I rushed her discharge from kitty-hospital.

Baby cat is doing so well the vet is comfortable releasing her a day early

Just waiting on the paperwork!

No news on rX diet yet since the urine and stone analysis hasn't made it back.

So I lied.

Not really, I just hadn't actually spoken to the vet yet at my last post. She's going to be on the w/D until the stone analysis comes back.

The c/D has apparently replaced the x/D since the last time I had to research food for stone-prone kitties, so it'll probably be the c/D after all is said and done. I'm just going to do what the dr. orders. I need my best friend.

w/d? What on earth for? That's for cats with diabetes or obesity.

yes, the c/d multicare is made to keep the urine properly balanced to prevent both struvite and oxalate crystals.

Hills does not make the x/d any more, but it was for oxalate, not struvite. the s/d is meant for short term use, to help dissolve struvite, and once the urine is clear, the cat is put on c/d for life.

With as serious as your girl's problem was, I would never feed her anything else, ever. She can be on the c/d right now, since it is for both issues.

Is she home now?

Hi otto!

It puzzled me slightly too because I honestly expected c/D or x/D before knowing they discontinued the x/D diet! I couldn't remember what the w/D was for off the top of my head. I plan on asking for more details tomorrow ... I was honestly wrapped up in being there with her. She is home, resting and recouping. Her BFF Moo insisted on a visit to kiss on her, so I supervised that then kicked Moo out to let Peanut rest. I assume it's a "stop-gap" until they know the make-up of the crystals and get a detailed urine culture back, because the vet did express she'll make a final decision on diet recommendations once she knows if they're struvite or calcium oxalate. She's not diabetic, or seriously over weight, but could stand to lose another pound. She's of a smaller build and weighed 13-ish lbs at her heaviest. She's at 11.something right now.

On the other hand, I was reading that the c/D successfully controls both types. Since she has had all possible stones removed and post-op x-ray to double check their work, I do wonder? But there is time to ask these questions, I'm blessed that my biggest worry right now is food!

Any insight that anyone might provide is truly appreciated!

BTW I truly thank everyone that has been following Peanut's crisis! It means alot!

aaand here is her coming home picture. I'm so lame. I just love her so much <3

The vet herself wasn't in today to question the rX but the tech sent me home with c/D. The tech probably typed up the instructions, didn't want to admit a mistake and probably rushed off to fix it as soon as I left, lol.
