My poor baby jumped into the bath yesterday and did a tiny wee. I kept an eye on her and she started going in the litter tray and squatting for ages, coming out for a few minutes and going back in. She also had a bit of a runny poo. I took her to the emergency vet, who checked her bladder, which was small, so empty. She took her temperature and checked her all over. She gave her an injection of antibiotics and anti inflammatories. She also has capsules to take, cystease. The vet said she's seen a lot of cats with cystitis recently as the weather has been so bad that they are staying in and holding in their pee.
Roxy has to take one capsule daily and go back next Saturday for a check up.
The vet advised me to take her dry food away, as she needs to get as much moisture in her as possible, and cats are notorious for not drinking much, so by feeding her more wet food she'll take on more moisture. She also recommended feeding her plain White fish to calm her belly. I poached some cod for her, which she's been eating, today I've had to mix in a tiny bit of her wet food with it to encourage her to eat it.
When will she feel better?
The vet said to still let her out, she is an indoor and outdoor cat, and going out makes her happy. I've been fussing her when she wants it, and brushing her too, which she loves. She's still spending quite a lot of time squatting. :-( I wish I could make her better instantly. How long does it take to calm down.
Is there anything else I can do? I've offered her cat milk too but she's not keen on it.

Awww... poor girl.... Did the vet give her pain meds? This should make her feel better to pee...
Also, make sure the fish is fillet only - no bones, no fish cat food. I never heard of a vet prescribing fish to calm the belly - fish was the first thing I cut from Bugsy's diet when he had an UTI.

Thank you! She did seem better, but at lunchtime she was back in and out of the litter tray constantly, squatting but not peeing, so I'm taking her back to the vets this evening.

Thank you, she had another injection at the vets last night, and she's now on metacam, which I'm not keen on, but it's hopefully just short term, and if it makes her feel better .......

She seemed calmer last night, I just hate that I have to leave her to come to work.

She met our guinea pigs last night, from a distance, we had them in a box in the living room and Roxy was watching them from a safe distance
I think she's a bit afraid of them - she won't go near them, which is good.

There are several soothing ingredients in this; I always give this to my kitties with UTIs along with their veterinary prescribed Clavamox and anti-inflammatory injection. Here is what is in it:

Active Ingredients Per Tablet: Uva Ursi 100 mg, Chanca piedra (Phyllanthus niruri) Powder 75 mg, Cranberry Juice Extract 50 mg, Marshmallow (Altheaea officinal) Root Powder 50 mg, L-Methionine 50 mg, Corn Silk Powder 30 mg, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C)30 mg, Dandelion (Taraxum officinal) Whole Plant Powder 25 mg, Olive Leaf (15% Oleuropein) Extract 25 mg, Lactobacillus Acidophilus 17.5 million CFU
Ingredients: brewers yeast, fish flavor, microcrystalline cellulose, silicon dioxide, stearic acid, vegetable stearate.

Or plain Uva Ursi herb -- very nice to compliment or supplement the antibiotic for the inflammation. Capsules must be sized down and the tablets must be crushed to give 1/3 or less to the cat two or three times daily. Depends on the weight of your cat.

Mitsu had 1 and 1/2 UTIs which remedied with Clavamox, anti-inflammatory injections and Vetri-Science UT Strength. I gave her plenty of the Vetri-Science UT Strength and she now only squats on the carpeting when she goes into kitten season.

Awww poor little muffin. Lots of mega healthy coming over

Jessy, have you got a water fountain?, because they encourage them to drink more. Zooplus is the best site for things like that.

This one is the one my cats like the most: Drinkwell Platinum. I put a link for a kit there as it is a good deal with the filters and the brushes to clean...

Careful with Metacam... I rather do pain management anytime... In fact I did, I refused Metacam when Bugsy had his UTI (it was really cystitis/bladder inflammation, with lots and lots of blood) - the ER vet was going to give him an injection of it, and I said no.
This is the supplement I gave to Bugsy when he had his UTI, it was great: Cranberry Relief. Of course I spoke to my vet about it, and he approved it. It is only not recommend it for oxalate crystals (Cranberry isn't).

Thanks Carolina, I will see if I can get a similar package in the UK :-)
She only had metacam for a few days luckily. She's got to stay on cystaid for around a month.
