Free animals on cl

I am just so upset this am. My dh and I both love horses. Some guy on cl has two for $50.00 each. A filly and a colt. He just wants them "out of here". He might as well be giving them away. There are slaughter houses in Canada and we are on the border.

I wish to God we had a nice barn. I would be over there now getting them. Our barn is over 100 years old and a snowstorm a year or so ago collapsed the roof. It will be taken down this year. We can't afford to board two horses either. Around here that would be probably 400-500 per month.

This has just ruined my day. I can only pray that some good people and not dealers buy them. Maybe some TCS vibes and prayers for these two.

Reason number 345 why I hate people like this.

Rant over. Thanks for listening.

Is there a horse rescue group in your area that might take them in if you purchased them and gave a generous donation to them? Do you have any friends that might be able to board them for you?

It is awful when that happens. But that is how I got my Shetland ponies - they were advertised as 'no offer refused' and I paid 50 euros each for them. They were part of a herd that was being 'sold' because the guy no longer wanted anything to do with them - they had belonged to his wife. My friend and I took two each and Maisie was in foal so in the spring my two became three. I have always dreaded finding out what happened to all the others.

I just e mailed a horse rescue about 50 miles from here. No, no one has a barn fit for horses.

I told them I would donate to them and purchase them. $50.00 each...they might as well be free.

I think horses are going the way of cats....they are breeding and thinking they can make tons of money and find out they can't. Then this happens.

Thanks Stephanie.

Oh Jenny, you have a great heart. Shetlands....how wonderful. You and your friend surely did a work of mercy.

I sure hope these two find people like you two.

There ought to be a law.

My dh will call me and say "look at this horse". I always say, "will this make me mad?". Yep, you should see me when they are free.

Not a pretty sight.

I think Cl should take the high road and not accept "free" animal postings. I mean how much business do you think they'll loose? There aren't that many anyway. So, someone has to ask 100.00 for a horse or 10.00 for a smaller animal.

I think that would be good pr for CL and certainly good for animals.

Nope, it sure isn't. I remember when I was a kid reading the classifieds for horses. My best friend and I would always call on them. Even though our parents at the time refused to get us horses.

They were 400.00 or more. Now, threre is such a glut on the market.

I am sure counting on that. The horse rescue in Rochester got back to me right away. They only have room for 23 horses and have 24 now.

He referred me to one that is actually about 5 miles from me that I didn't know about. Well, I did, but didn't know it was so close. I haven't heard back. But I don't have much hope there. I see they are on the net begging for hay. Their barn roof blew off last fall and they lost all their hay for this winter. I am going to make a call today to see if I can find them some hay.

Why is it that people that only want to do good and help the animals have everything against them most of the time.

It is so discouraging.

I really hope they can help the horses, I love horses, I used to have one when I was younger, some people just et them and don't realise how much expense and care that they need, same with alot of animals I'm afraid. Thankyou for helping, we have things like that on freecycle and it upsets me, dh tells me its not our problem but when you care you just can't help it. If you can help just one animal or person I think it makes a huge difference.
Have you got a local farm near you that could either help you with hay for the rescue or maybe a barn?? Good luck, keep us posted.xx

Guy at this rescue got back to me. Wanted more info so I referred the cl listing to him. He said he was going to ask around their network to see if anyone could foster or adopt them.

Then he e mailed me that he was tring to contact the poster. sounds like he may have found a place for them.

As of this am, haven't heard. I sure hope we are not too late.
