Hi
My ten month old kitten has been eating junk food and until i found this site i didnt realise it.
I, like many cat owners thought that i had been giving him the best i.e the most expensive at the supermarket. My poor kitten has been eating stuff that only contains 4% "meat". I would therefore like to change his diet. On the plus side he does eat one fresh meal a day. This is what he has at the moment-
AM - half a pouch of junk

LUNCH - half a pouch

DINNER - around 80grms of steamed white fish (human grade) Its called colin here in France, pollock in the UK.

PM - Full pouch of junk which he eats overnight.

He will have a tiny amount of Pro Plan kibble as a snack sometimes but not every day.
I have seen a brand called Applaws which is 75% meat or fish that i would like to gradually introduce into his diet. However i have read that it is not a "complete" food so would he be lacking in vitamins? I am confused - please help! - Just wanted to add that he has been neutered, is very active and goes out for a least an hours walk with me( in his harness) in the woods everyday.

to TCS! I'm familiar with the Applaws, and the producer recommends feeding it in addition to a good quality dry to cover all nutritional needs. You could also feed it along with another canned/wet food that's considered "complete".

As far as feeding fish every day, you might want to do a search here for threads such as this one.

What brand of food is he currently eating? I find it hard to believe that a wet food would have only 4% meat. . .but I'm not familiar with the brands available in France. What are the ingredients? It is possible to find a halfway decent wet cat food in the grocery store, you just need to read the labels. Sometimes it's not even the most expensive brand, either.

He is eating whiskas pouches at the moment. The pack clearly states that it has 4% of "meat and animal derivatives" - yuck! i can only buy that or Felix in the supermarkets here. As it is i have to bulk buy it when i am in the UK as the French whiskas upsets his tummy.
As for the fish - well his vet has said that its fine as long as its white and not an oily fish. I like to give him something fresh everyday but he will not eat cooked best minced beef or cooked chicken any other ideas?
I can order the Applaws online here - as it is better quality do i feed less? I was thinking of one small can (i think that they are 70g) with a fresh meal and a proper meal sized serving of quality kibble. Thanks for your help!
