Poor mother cat, she has not gone into her heated condo, there is 100mm thick soft insulation material at top of condo and top of that wool shirts, so that is probably 2nd warmest place there is, so that is where I found her this morning, keeping her feet underside of her and really looking awful, but that can be because I probably woke her up, I have noticed their faces look messed up when they are awoken from sleep, fur is perhaps bit erect or something, also eye lids seem to be making cat look bit annoyed or something like that.

So we did play a bit as she was there and was not going anywhere, I can't tell if she did like it or not, could not see her tail, she probably had tucked it under of her earlier and as she did not wanted to get up, just reaching toy with paw, I could only see her whiskers, eyes and ears, whiskers were widely apart and curved downwards, but everything else was as usual, neutral.

Mother cat's signaling is pretty much neutral always, there is about two different looks + closed eyes look, when playing she takes her "soon about to attack that toy" -look, head is bit rised and eyes bit wider, she looks then bit serious, like in this pic where is also Miuku when he was little one.
Then there is look where she is as she always is:

Well, I don't really have any pics of her normal look as she always takes that serious look when sees something in my hands, pic above is from time when they did not stay at warehouse, just visited, so I had just quickly thrown few boxes, heater and basket with stuffing for them and little pieces of camping mattresses so they would stay warm.

I even let cat door open last night, but she is not willing to come inside, where is warmer, not sure if she even fits trough, she does look to be quite widebody these days, must be because of winter that her body is more than 2 times diameter of her head

Should get better when I catch her and keep her inside for some time so she is getting healed from operation, I think that I must keep her some time inside, so she is getting bit of trust for me like those little cats have gotten, so that would stay around after relasing her?

Might be that I will put some limits to her freedom, but not quite sure yet about that one, there just is a lot of dangers at outside world and there is that Lynx and it's clubs, which are probably already starting to venture on their own and house cat is not match for even tiny Lynx.

Probably she is then at heat, -18C again last night but that seem not to cool her down, she will not find any toms for a month at least as all of them are really far away still this time of year, so if I don't manage to trap her she has some difficult month coming.

I really have to get her today, because there is going to be really long time until I can try trapping again after that.

When I did bought the house, I did not move in immediately, but spend night here and then at the house making it more suitable for moving in as house had not been used for years.

I did remember that there were some little cats once, but I did not remember taking photo from them, but now I did stumble to old, rather horrible quality pics that I had took from them, end of next month it will be exactly 3 years ago.

http://jtbo.pp.fi/images/road_pics/n...pikkukatit.jpg

What struck me is that one looking towards to camera does look a lot like Mouku, if he would have bit more white on his face, then he would be exactly like Mouku, well can't say if it is he or she really from the photo, but all details like that white/black on paws is like it is in Mouku, white chest and white in face, very much alike.

I have no idea where those two are today or where they had come from, but I really would like to know even I know it is impossible now.

It was only one or two evenings that I saw them, they were gone when I came to house next time, but I did fed them for that short time.

Now what about Mauku, could she be so old, it should be at least 4 years of feral life? Maybe colours just happen to be so much alike and also long fur?

Would it be more likely to have same father than same mother? Mauku is mostly white.

I did read that Siamese colouring is affected by body temperature, cooler areas are different colour than warm areas, but how cat colours are 'generated' I have not much idea, in genetics there are stronger and weaker genes, but it is area that I have had no chance to explore a much, so I don't know how much of it is predictable and how much chaos theory fits in.

I must read this article from
with thought sometimes, maybe it has some pointers, but I have been too busy with other things lately.

Anyway I thought that there might be some connection with these cats.

2009 similar time of spring there was then Kurnaus, which I think was a stray as she leaped to my lap at autumn and decided to live with me, she would not do that if she would of been feral, also petting and handling was ok with her after the day she rubber her head against me. I hope that there are no more kittens facing cruel world alone after this springs trapping operation which I plan on doing, but that is about to be seen how I will have time for it.

I did caught mother cat, poor thing had tried to go trough steel wires, shredded carboard that I had put to bottom and managed to soak all remaining pieces wet, she had red bump above eye and red 'glow' between toes of one front leg, I hope that she has not got hurt very badly

So, I did cover the trap when I picked her up, new cardboard I did put under her, which was not too easy, put some fish into trap, then put heater next to her, so now she is at quiet place and covered, place is not very warm, but heater will warm it soon. She did hiss and tried to run trough the trap when I picked up her even she was covered and I don't mean any gentle bumps, she did use all of her strength and that had to hurt. I try to feed her later, but I don't know if it is going to work too well, tomorrow I will know if it is tomorrow or day after that I can take her to vet.

Worried now, but she is a feral, she is a strong big girl, at least I hope.

That is good news that you were able to trap her.

Luna went a little crazy too when I first tried to pick up her trap to move it. I immediately covered it and kept it covered until we got to the vet. Her paws were bloody as well where she was trying to get out, but vet said they would be fine. As far as I know they have since healed up just fine.

Hopefully she will calm down and eat and the vet will be able to see her tomorrow.

Sending lots of luck your way!!!

and YAY! But oh poor momma kitty! Poor you! It just hurts the heart when they fight so much, but it just has to be done.

On the other hand, it's got to be a big relief for you! Momma will be more settled, at less risk for SO many things, and no more kitties!

I do so hope they'll be able to take her Monday!

Thank you from your support LDG and alexandrajames, it has been quite stressful day working as vet had no time today, but tomorrow, bit after noon is now marked to schedule.

She is not eating or drinking stuff that I bring to her, she is not hissing, just looks at me nose pointing down, even more down when I try to give her something to eat. or drink, it is bit difficult with trap, I use small spoon, Miuku did eat when he was trapped, growled and also did eat too, but Mauku is not doing anything, I doubt that she has even moved at all, she is at same spot all the time.

She had slept during last night, I did woke up her at the morning, at least her face did look same as Miuku's when he is awoken. Mouku is real heavy sleeper, I have walked past him at warehouse when he has been at sleep, absolutely no reaction at all, had to clap hands together several times to get him up and it took really long time for his boot sequence to get up, calmly moved off from floor where he slept, then bit later panic attack, that monster is so close, over 3 meters away

I don't know if I should introduce mother cat to boys as it would not be very realistic to let them all be living there, litter boxes are bit of an issue then, they know how to share, but I have to make everything so that they can easily manage 5 days as that is pretty much maximum time job keeps me away, thank god not too often, I have then weeks when I don't need to leave the house if I just shop wisely

Today I did give Miuku and Mouku some wet food again, Miuku came to eat from the spoon again, Mouku wanted to, but was not yet quite sure, he did go to rest at sofa then, after Miuku did eat, he did go to mattress on floor which they have pulled there, both got onto their sides and just relaxing, I think one of them has fiddled with heater settings again, there is quite warm, cat should be fine with +22C while I'm ok with +18C, but they put it to +3XC, bit like Garfield

I did make also a mistake, Miuku was less than 1 foot from me, for some reason he decided to stare at me and I accidently did stare her to eyes, I did close my eyes and turned my head side, but he got bit nervous, however did not hide and I managed to save situation by introducing some treats from my sleeve, which seemed to make him happy again. It is so easy to stare one, keeping eyes closed is not good either, firstly then I will not see anything, but also they get restless if I keep my eyes closed too long.

I did order also full examination of mother cat's health, god knows how much that will cost, but I think it is better to do as she has been living rough life.

Treatments and neutering/spaying three cats in one month, without any discounts is rather costly, over 500, but when alternative has been delivering them to shelter that would had killed them, I really don't see any other option. Shelters here seem to have point of view where feral is not suitable for taming, they consider it being torturing of feral cat to try to socialize it and they consider it is better to get such cat killed.

I have great difficulties to grasp logic behind that, it also twists my internal parts quite badly when I remember their attitude, but it seems to be case with many shelters, all that I have been in contact with.

Even that it hurts my economy quite badly, I had to do something so that these few that decided to tolerate me are not going to face such fate, I know some shelters are doing trapping on this area too.

I would just like to say that I think it's wonderful what you are doing for these cats!! Miuku and Mouku seem to be doing great!! They are having such fun, playing, eating, resting and all.
They seem to be settling in just fine.

The shelter where I live seems to have the same attitude when dealing with feral/semi-feral cats. It makes me sooooo mad sometimes when even talking with such people.

But, people like you and everyone else on this site who are just great to care enough about the lives of these cats puts a big smile on my face.
These little kitties are simply misunderstood and in need of lots of love.

I am wishing you lots of luck tomorrow when taking Mauku to the vet. I hope everything goes well.

She is probably scared to death, but I think that maybe since she has known you for a while, she may also know that you are going to take good care of her!! Once everything checks out at the vet, she can then come home to relax!!!!

Sending you and all your furry friends lots of love and luck!!

I know momma being so unhappy is breaking your heart, but it's OK if she' doesn't eat because she's so scared.
I think Alexandra's right, she's very scared, but I agree, she knows you're doing something out of your love for her.
At least they do have the time tomorrow. Sending many good thoughts that all goes well!

And the reason Gary and I trap the kitties to have them spayed and neutered around here is for the same reason. Most shelters will kill the feral cats.
Either that, or they're full. Or the "No Kill" shelter only wants to take kittens or friendly strays.
We trapped 8 this February. We've spent quite a lot of money on cats, I really don't want to think about it!

No money can measure joy of cat being healthy and getting opportunity of living in safe environment.

I left some bits for mother cat to her cage, she had made them disappear, I don't know if she has eaten them or if she has got them buried under the cardboard, but wet food that I left had disappeared.

Now I did leave spoon with water in it, there for her, over 24 hours without water is not good, of course she does need a lot when stationary, but even little bit should help.

Of course she got some water from wet food if she ate it. Still at same spot, not moving, but no hissing.

Little cats are above her, they had quite active night, I don't know if she recognizes their stomping sounds, or does she just get scared of them, she should hear if little cats have 'spoken' during the night, they sometimes do, sometimes don't.

They had managed to move mattresses again, now Mouku's sleeping spot had disappeared as a result, so I did move mattresses and after I left Miuku does several checkups of room, then he goes to top of mattress that I put leaning towards frame where all mattresses are stored and made Mouku's favorite spot to disappear again, well, part of it, I think that he is bit envy of Mouku that is usually on sofa when I bring them dinner etc, Miuku himself is more brave to eat, but is not as relaxed that Mouku is when I'm around, he is trying to be, they are like any brothers, competing in many things.

Just like last evenings treat tossing, Miuku was not interested at first, but when he saw and heard Mouku eating treats, he runs to location and grabs as many treats as he can. Most horrible thing seem to be that if other one gets more or something better (even in their imagination). Some says that animals are not being envy or greed, but I beg to differ, they are for sure being envy, especially Miuku that is more active one, also he has to be bolder, stronger, faster, first about everything, it is kind of cute actually, but I can see how it can be stressful for Mouku that is what one might call 'nice person', maybe bit timid, he would not harm even a fly, where Miuku stomps on them, then eats them.

So out of them, Miuku is the hunter, if there is a mouse, Miuku is very keen to grab it, Mouku is not bad mouser for sure, but he does not jump on bookself trying to get a mouse that is at ceiling or between walls.

One mouse did bother me few days ago, runs at wall right next to my ear, I could hear mouse moving towards cat's side and there is probably some gap where mouse can get to floor as it was not a long that I heard some stomping, squealing and more stomping.

I bought some dried fish yesterday, it was actually sold for dogs, but fish is a fish, it should work for cats too?
Then there was some chicken bars, it was also branded for a dog, but I think cat likes chicken and it should not be harmful for cats?
We have meters of shelves of dog toys, food, treats, but for cats from 0 to 3 items, sure many brand of dry food, but not much of treat choices. Dog seem to have all kind of pig ears etc. As cat does eat meat, maybe they could use some meat treats that are made for dogs, or is it difficult for them to chew those harder dried meat things?

Mother cat is now back from vet, in pic still has some drugs in her system.

She is now in her hideout which I quickly made, I hope she can soon be moved to where other cats are, but I should wait for a week of that.

She is around 5 years old accordingly to vet, healthy, surprise was that she did not suffered from ear mites, bad surprise was that she was so much in panic of getting to trap that she had broken all her claws from front paws

So it is taking a long time until she is fully recovered, I think at least.

Little cats are just waking up slowly, I don't know how long it will take for them to realize that mother cat is very close to them, but as they don't make lot of sounds, it is not probably going to happen before Miuku comes to check out this side of upstairs, which can take some time as it is still quite bright outside.

She has been sleeping freezing temps lately so maybe that has killed all mites, there was not found anything else on her, or anything wrong otherwise, so she is fine.

She weights 4kg, that is 8.8 pounds, I would thought that she would be heavier, but she is actually rather ok weight, I guess.

Some say that she would not always been a feral, maybe it is so, at least she still learns trust, which would suggest that she is indeed semi feral or long time ago abandoned, but less feral than one never seen a human. Whatever human contact she may have had, it must be really long time ago as she really has had trouble with trusting me.

Awww, boys are playing with scratching post, both on their sides, one at sofa, other on floor, sneak attacks then and doing what cats do, they must be having great time. Scratching post is close to sofa, they walk between the sofa and the scratching post so that their sides rub on both, it is tight fit, but they squueze there, must feel good or something as it is very common thing they do.

They seem to be perfectly at home there now, still they need to learn to trust me more so that they would not hide when I enter the room, but when I look them from video, they are like any tame cats.

I'm running low on feliway, I might get new one because of mother cat, but I don't think little cats would require it anymore. Then again, if I drop something and there is odd sudden noise, they do scramble to safety of their hideout

I am sooooo happy that Mauku is doing good and is healthy!!!!!

Do you have her in the house as well?

That is so funny about the mouse and all the stomping and squealing and more stomping.

It does seem Miuku and Mouku are very happy in their new home and I'm sure in time Mauku will be as well. She is safe now and does have some trust in you already. Maybe not a lot yet, but I'm sure she will.

Good Luck!!!!!!

There is wardrobe between two upstairs rooms, there is only one door to it and it is 3 feet x 6 feet in size, more or less, I did put her there now as I can't put her yet to where two little ones are, they play too rough these days for operated old lady without claws. She must recover at least a week.

I'm thinking about moving her to other side of upstairs at weekend. I don't know how Mauku can sleep as my bed is right next to wardrobe and I can't keep door of that closed as it would get really cold and it would have bad air too, so she have to put up with those things, she has hiding place and door is only bit open and still there is curtain put so that opening is covered, but all sounds are almost in same space for her. There is 100mm rock wool at walls of wardrobe so it is quite well damping sounds too, I'm bit paranoid about sounds and for added heat insulation I have put that stuff as it also blocks sounds quite well, some day I hope to have enough of that stuff so that I can make upstairs to be quiet room or at least place where I sleep, quiet dark room is heaven for those having migraine.

Little cats are bit odd, they stalk each other when either of them is using litter box and this happens every time, they did that even when they were at warehouse.

I just so wish that I could spend next 8 weeks at home, it should give them enough time to adjust to mom cat and mom cat to adjust me to level were she would not be really scared all the time and living indoors, but it just is not happening, have to go to place where is Santa's Christmas park, well I guess it could be worse.

It has always been setback when I'm gone, so it will be now too a setback, but as we have progressed so well, I hope it is small one.

What an amazing journal and journey! And what beautifull kitties, absolutely gorgeous. I am so glad you were able to trap Mauku as well. Her poor little paws. They will heal under your care...

I love their names too. I lived in Finland for a few years in the 90's In Helsinki and Turku- wonderful country with wonderful people. I miss my time there.

I'm feeling terrible, slept on and off only few hours, Miuku was running between rooms all night, probably smelling Mauku, then I did close the door and tried to get some sleep at 4 am, but Mauku then decided that she has been enough long there and decided to squeeze past door frame and metal wire 'door' I made from garden fence, I did not leave lot of gap, but she has strength of tiger and she feels no pain, so she pushed half way trough and then got stuck.

So I release her from there, and then she tries to hide putting his head under the small carpet/mat, what do you call them, leaving rest of her body exposed, so I did gently poke to her side and asked from her if she thinks she really is hiding. She seemed bit surprised and then did try to hide doorway where was closed door to cat room, she can make herself really really small by will, but certainly was not hiding no matter what she thought of that, so I had to open the door to cat room as she was not going back to wardrobe.

So this day she has been hiding under the mattresses, not eating at all, I put her favorite food there with added painkiller medicine in it, but she had not eaten much of it if at all by now, there is no way to give medicine to her other way and medicine is in that food that is next her under those mattresses.

She is feeling terrible now, I think.

Miuku has some issues with Mauku being there, she was hyper even it was bright already at the morning and he did came to my room even I was up, then he did run back, was laying really low and leaning to opposite side where Mauku was walking at the moment, also Mouku was looking place to hide as Mauku did enter to his favorite hiding spot.

They seem not to recognize her at all, also they seem to be scared of her, not as much as they are scared of me, but still scared, I hope that in few days things get better.

Mauku did try to jump from window, but she found out glass is hard, maybe she learned not to try that again. That despite their room is at 2nd floor.

I don't think that it was good to let her there already, but I'm pretty sure they will work that out, they have lived together before too, there is no problem them living together now too.

Miuku did also throw up today, two dots of some white goo, size of quarter, one smaller, maybe it is because of Mauku is there and he is getting scared of unknown cat being in his safe area, or maybe it is fly or two he has eaten, can't say there has been any change in food, so probably not about that then.

I am so sorry she broke all her claws.
Lazlo broke one off once, and it grew back just fine, but was painful.

I think you're right - not ideal that she's in their room already, but you really had no choice.

When we brought our very first kitten inside full time, we thought he'd be so happy to see his brother, who we brought inside full time 10 days later. It was like they didn't recognize each other. Lazlo (1st kitten) went after Sheldon (2nd kitten) like he was a meal LOL. They worked it out quickly. But momma is now "invader" into the kittens' territory. And she smells funny, because of surgery, vet, and medicine.

But it's the best alternative, and I'm sure they'll work it out!

I'm just glad she hasn't been able to actually escape. I know it's stressful for everyone, but she does need to recuperate.

Miuku did throw up again, also not interested from food and less active than usual, but does do his things, already on this side of upstairs too, but not as playing as usually. Maybe he has just some bad day or is my worry justified?

Why does cat even throw up? I have heard from hairballs, but they should be balls of hair?

He is demanding now that door is kept open, who knows what he plans to do tonight, but he came next to my bed again, like searching something, then after looking for a while he goes back, but that is usual from him, it is nice how much he has learned to trust me, he still is bit unsure, but willingly comes near me to explore this side.

I think too that things will end up working out with all cats in same room. Miuku and Mouku have settled into their new home and are now getting used to the indoor life.

Mauku has only been inside a couple of days and has also been through a lot.
I'm sure she is scared to death, but in time will also settle down.

I hope it all works out and I am sending lots of love and luck your way!

You are doing a great thing for all these kitties!! Don't beat yourself up! Just keep on doing what your doing, which is offering a lot of love to these kities.

When do you have to travel again? Because if he's not as active, then it's a little bit of a worry.
The hairball can cause them to be off their food for a while, but doesn't usually affect their level of activity. It's something you just really learn to know about your cats over time.

But cats throw up for a lot of reasons, just like people! (Maybe he ate a bug that's upset his stomach for a little while?
). But that's why you have to pay attention to everything else they're doing if they're throwing up.

Of course, they do throw up when they're fine, and that's usually hairballs. But hairball doesn't always come up. Sometimes it's not formed, and you'll just see some hair in the vomit.

But here's how hairballs work.

If the hair isn't passing through their system, but accumulating in their stomach, several things can happen.

The hairball can block the entrance to the rest of the GI system. This is what happens with our Flowerbelle. She'll eat some dry food. It expands in her stomach - and because the hairball is in there, she'll throw up, almost immediately. So it's undigested food. This is almost always a sign there's a hairball (throwing up undigested food).

The other thing that happens is hairball/hair get churned up as stomach starts the process of digestion, so some food passes through to rest of GI system, but then hair/hairball settles down and blocks entrance. When the food sits in the stomach for some time, but it can't pass, kitty will throw up. So digested food can also be a sign of a hair ball.

But they don't always get the hairball up, and sometimes they can vomit for several days. The problem is that hairball remedies don't work so well to remove an existing hairball, they work better if used to prevent them.

During shedding season, we give our two kitties that have trouble passing hairballs vaseline every other day. One of them just eats it, the other we have to force it in - something I'm not sure you can do with your boys yet.
The vaseline (petroleum jelly) works to bind the hair. But its molecules are too large to be absorbed by their digestive system, so it also coats the colon to help promote the passage of the hair.
Some people give their cats unsalted butter for hairballs, but they do digest this, so I'm not sure how it helps.

The other thing you can do is buy canned pumpkin, if they have it there. If you add a tablespoon to wet food, most cats (not ours, of course
) eat it. It is fiber, which can also help to pass the hair.

But if you want to try petroleum jelly, you need to know it does coat the colon, and that prevents them from absorbing nutrients from their food. So as you feed them a wet meal as well as their kibble, it's best to give the vaseline to him/them at least four hours before the meal if possible. But you can use it every day for a few days if you need to until the hair/hairball is passed. Just know it's not a good long term daily solution.

Our cats don't get any dry food, and they eat four wet meals of food a day. So I give the vaseline at the mid-point between two of the meals.

Less active can be because Mouku is somehow very scared and has not come out yet, maybe he is scared of Mauku so much, Miuku is surely jumping this side as usual, already 3 times in a hour, but he has not been yet at play mood, he is scared/not scared, if I go there he stays hidden now, but he can come and see me without problem

Here cat grass is sold for hairballs, actually I have that and I was going to make it grow, but there has been so many things, don't know if I can get it to pot where it would have automatic watering.

Trip comes too soon as I need to go at weekend already.

He did try to eat bit of dry food just now, I keep eye of situation but there has been such large change of introducing Mauku that it is difficult to tell which change comes from which event.

edit: I did found some grass under one of my forever project cars, picked up good amount of it and put next to bowl, maybe that should fix it, that is how they fix it in nature at least, but was there right kind of grass, that is unknown to me.

Mouku is not playing with Miuku at all, I would like to go there took him out from hiding and shovel towards Miku, so they could have good time and play, Mauku also is not moving from under her mattresses. Must restrain myself, can't really make it happen, it have to happen by themselves doing it, they should realize soon that Mauku is not a threat.
