I think it's a great idea!

We're rather sorry now that we didn't take one of Mollipop's brothers at the same time she came home. I think there are times when she gets bored, too, and nobody really wants to play with her. Amber did for awhile, but Molli is very territorial with her toys and doesn't like sharing. She chases Amber around the house and Amber will chase her, but Amber really likes to nap. And Molli is too young to spend her time sleeping.

If it weren't that we would then have seven cats (and six has always been our limit), we would probably try to find Mollipop a playmate, too.

By all means, try it out.

Walked over to PetsMart yesterday during my lunchtime and found a CUTE little 4 mo orange long haired baby. He was so scared to be there, especially with the DOGS that were there for the adoption event almost right outside from his cage. He was a total love bug! Once I started petting him, he started kneading and purring, even showed me the belly. He then came forward to the cage opening and let me pick him up. I needed more info and the woman who was there cleaning couldn't answer my questions, so I went back to work and called the foster mom. She ended up not being his foster mom and needed to get the info from the gentleman who fostered him. Anyway, when Mark came to pick me up from work, we went back to see him and he was GONE! He must've been adopted by someone with fewer questions!
However, I had a nice talk with the foster mom and she's going to keep an eye out for a potential kitty for us. Also, she's got the dilute calico floofy sister of the brother I fell in love with that's ready to go to PetsMart, so she's going to call me when the girl's there and I can pop over on my lunch break to see her.

Still working on convincing the husband that this would be a good thing for Tumbles. He's not so sure of it.

That's to bad that it didn't work out. Keep trying, since he was already adopted it wasn't meant to be, which means there's still a kitty out there your meant to find, you just haven't found them yet

I'll look through our "inventory" at the shelter in a few minutes. We have had one little guy named Bentley who was both a cuddler and a player.

I try to test the kitties for how they get along with other cats. If I hold them up to a bunch of different cages and get nothing but purrs, I can be pretty sure they're laid-back about other cats.

Also, I trim the claws on all the cats I can. That can tell you a lot about them.

I'm coming into this thread late, but I wanted to say that I think adding another cat would be wonderful for Tumbles and, likely, for Hannah as well. I think ensuring that the adoption agency, shelter, or foster home has information about the cat you decide to bring home is key to starting off introductions on the right foot. Not all cats are ideal playmates for an active kitty. And, not all cats will appreciate a cuddle from you or one of their new siblings. I think the way you're going about this is a positive one. And, I, for one, don't think your husband will be much of an issue when the time comes -- remember how his begrudging self was with Tumbles? I seem to remember many a picture of him cuddling with Tumbles
. I'm just saying...he's a bit of a softie (as well as a wonderfully loving kitty daddy).

There are times that I wish I had adopted another kitty after taking in Finnegan. Even though my girls were (and still are) young when I brought him home, his personality is such that he is always getting on their nerves. He is an active kitty who always wants to play. And, then, when he's finally tired, he wants to be on top of another kitty. Or, well, anything warm -- humans will do as well. Emory plays with him quite a bit and will snuggle with him, but he tires her out and she gets annoyed with him. Cassidy is much the same. And, Delaney wants nothing to do with him. But, for me, another cat is not an option right now. But, that's why I think it is a good idea for those who can financially and emotionally support an addition. And, it sounds like you most certainly fall into that category.

Good luck with the search. And, I hope your husband comes around and agrees that Tumbles needs a friend. It's a shame the kitten you had your eyes set on was unavailable, but that just means there is another cat or kitten who is waiting for you when (and if) you're ready...

Mark said that we have to get transportation for me first (to replace my stolen truck) so that we'll both have the freedom to take any pet to the vet that we need to. Mark found a truck for me YESTERDAY (!!) and is hopefully purchasing it TODAY (pending mechanic check out & etc), so the coast is clear for a new kitty.

I've been showing him pics I've found on Petfinder, just to help soften him up a bit and we've been talking about it and discussing what kind of kitty we think would work best. I've talked to 2 different rescue groups, 3 if you count the one that wasn't helpful AT ALL! The last person I've been working with has been so very helpful and is excited to find a kitty that will work with our group. One of the kitties I emailed her about she has been fostering and is really thinking about adopting, but she did admit he might be the best fit for us. He's another brown tabby boy and had to have one of his front legs amputated when he was about 4 mos old. He sounds precious!!

Will definitely keep you all posted!

Ooooo, how exciting all the way around! LOVE Mark's concern about a new kitty meaning you have to replace your truck!
Nothing like potentially adopting a new kitty to get things like replacing a vehicle in gear!

Any further developments?

The shelter is really low on cats, so they mentioned bringing in Flambe to try him again. I may do that...but kitten season is about to start.

Funny you should ask! I got a call today from a lady that used to work with the Johnson Co. Humane Society. She and a bunch of other people are in the process of forming a new rescue group and she has a little boy she wants me to meet. He's in a good situation right now, but his owner adopted him after losing an older cat and this little guy has too much energy for her. He loves to play, loves to snuggle, needs a cat friend, and drinks from the toilet!
I told that would NOT happen in my home! We leave the lids down and we have low flush toilets, so not going to happen here! She wanted to bring him over to meet the kitties, but I told her absolutely not! Not going to disrupt my house, not to mention possibly traumatizing the other kitty just to see him. I would prefer to see him at his current home if the owner is open to that. Otherwise I'll wait until he's in foster care and see him there. I'm trying to convince the husband to go have a look at him.

If you do bring him back, I hope this time he gets adopted right away

Very odd for someone about to start a rescue! I hope they learn a bit more about cats!
