Mine too.
I initially joined in summer or fall of 2004. Monster and Harley (the only two we had at the time) got into "something" that caused them both to start drooling and staggering. Of course, this happened over the weekend when the vets is closed. The support I got here was awesome, as was the advice (contain them, etc.). I stuck around for a while, then got busy planning my wedding, selling a house and moving, starting a new job so I dropped out for a few years. Then one day I was surfing around, bored out of my mind, and thought "what about that cat site? That was fun.." and the rest is history!

I came for advice, I came back for the friendship!

Jan. But it's true! And you have grown up into such a wonderful (and accomplished!) young lady!

I think Nat (white cat lover) was technically a teen when she joined six or so years ago. I think she might be the only other member that was a teen when she joined that is still an active member of the "TCS family."

I think a lot of us that have been members for some time took breaks along the way. "Life" happens... but the friendship always brings us back!

I came back to this thread and I'm enjoying all the responses, but this one is best:

You got that right, buster! I feel like I'm severely limiting my relationship options by requiring that my partner be a cat lover, so it's always nice to see men who are man enough to say that THEY LOVE CATS!!

GREAT QUESTION LAURIE!
Well, a little over a year ago I decided to step into the 21st century and buy a computer. I wanted to connect with people like me--who were crazy in love with cats. I had two of my old babies pass away several months before and most of the folks I had in my life at the time were very superficial about my grief. We've all heard the comments from the well meaning peanut gallery, "It was just a cat..."etc, etc I had also just been adopted by my Bella, my Heart and wanted to share her with the world. Regular people (family and friends) have always regarded me as alittle bit "off" because I love cats so much. They think that with time, I'll get over it.

So at first I joined another forum that has a popular magazine named after it...it was OK. the people were OK But I really didn't feel a kinship with them. Only 3 or 4 of the seasoned members ever posted anything. So one day I googled "cat sites" and "cat forums" and lo and behold my life changed. I came by and read a few threads and posts and was so moved and thrilled by how real everyone seemed to be. So I showed up. It was the wisest thing I've done in a long time. I had no idea when I joined what dark days I would be walking into and all of you carried me when i didn't think I could take another step.

I had several cats, and had just rescued a tiny kitten that someone had thrown out of a car window, trying to hit a pond. Another forum that I had been posting on did not seem to think it was such an awful thing to do. The
members here were so sympathetic and concerned about the baby, and that she was ok. She was a dear little gray tabby, and lived with me until her accidental death several years later.
One of the first posts I remember reading here was one by hissy saying that someone had flown a plane into the WTC.

Googled Feral cat as I had brought home and was baffled at little Zoeys behavior... Never heard the term prior to adopting her and nope it was not explained
... Turned out I had years of feral kitty experience just not with "pets" but more a colony
... Oh and none of the ferals I knew were inside ... Hissy Dear I owe you a lot for helping me thru those feral adolescence days

I must've been about 18 years old when I joined, now I'm 24! So yes, I "grew up" with the forum too Sam!
Kinda funny too, if you think about it.

My feline family grew the more I stuck around the forum, too.

Nat, I remember the guy who wanted to date you and your plan was to discourage him by telling him about the cats. Instead of disgusting him it made him more interested... and to decline his next offer, you told him you had to work at the shelter - and he volunteered! I remember it so clearly because you asked what guy wants to clean cat poop on a date?

Of course... my reaction now is - A KEEPER.

Forget that Laurie! My "keeper" is a big fat orange & white cat sitting curled up in my lap - drooling. He has stinky cat food breath & a yucky ear, kinda sunken "old cat" eyes, oh & he bites (nicely). He ain't attractive, but he's licking my arm right now!
Now that's what I'd call a keeper!

Great thread, Laurie!
I just had Calvin, my first kitty ever, and we had to leave him home for most of the day and I was freaking out and so I googled something about kitten home alone and stumbled on TCS and decided to post.
Did not know how pivotal TCS will become in my new life with Calvin and Hobbes!

I discovered the FeLV virus in the feral colony I was caring for that through a mix up at my vets, spread inside my home. I was searching for answers on how to manage it and I'll admit, a little empathy.

I was catless and was researching what type of cat would be the best for me. This was awhile back so I don't exactly remember my frame of mind but it's possible I was looking for a purebreed. Today I have 2 DSH's

Cats have been a passion since I was a wee little girl. I wanted to find some people to talk to about cats, as everyone I know gets kind of sick of hearing about them from me. And I wanted to find some like minded people so I could hear about their cats. And I never tire of looking at cat pictures.

I googled "cat forums" and explored various options. I lurked here for a couple of months before deciding to jump aboard - because this is such a positive "place" with warm, respectful, members.

Then the site wouldn't let me completely join for a couple months. I finally e-mailed Abby'sMom and she helped to find someone to correct the problem. Then I could post.

This is the "nicest" forum I've ever been involved in. I'm glad I found it.

Robin
