There is a posting on craigslist for a antique tin bathtub. The price is pretty good.

I saw this and immediately thought it would either make a great planter or a great water feature. Or if its really hot outside fill it with cool water and relax.

The only concern is where would I put it as its 5 feet long.
I don't think one would put it on soil as it could rust faster.
I already have a large cast iron kettle by the patio for a water garden but that could be moved elsewhere(by my garden shed perhaps).

It would have to stay outside.

You just don't see items like this around here.

Please help me decide!

Something like that? Just buy it and worry about where you're going to put it later. That would be a great find!

If you didn't want to put it on soil, couldn't you put a few pavers down to place it on?

If it's that good a buy and you love it, get it and worry later what you will do with it.

When it is in your yard, you will start to get all kinds of ideas. It's easier to decide when the object is in view.

If you don't want it, I'll take it!! Nasturshums (sp?) would look really cute in it cascading over the side.

I've always heard that if you love it you should buy---you may never get another chance. Buy it already!

I agree. Several years ago, I found something that I just loved. I didn't buy it and wouldn't let DH buy it for me. I never found that item again, despite looking all over the place, in stores and online.

If you really love this tub, get it while you can.

I know a girl that keeps koi in an antique tub with the floating plants and flowers. It is beautiful, and if the water turns cloudy, she can let some of out of the drain and change it.
I also like the idea of cooling off in it.
If you like it that much, go for it. There are many things you could use it for, especially with you being a landscaper and gardener, and most importantly, it will make you happy.

If this is something you really want, buy it, and worry about where you are going to put it later. Otherwise you'll spend to much time trying to find a place for it, when you finally do, someone else will have already bought it. At least that's how it would work out for me lol.

Set up a nice area in the garage with some carpet and take advantage of the tin tub occasionally!

If you don't always use it for bathing you can use it for parties. Fill it with ice and put beverages into it. Use it as a hostess area for bridal showers, wedding showers etc. Where people can put their gifts in upon arriving. It could be decorated with pretty ribbons and bows etc.

And if you and hubby have an argument, he will always have a comfy place to sleep!

I'm picking it up Saturday. The seller lives about 90 minutes away so it will be a good little road trip as we usually don't drive to that section of the state.
I have a welder friend that I will have check over the seams though the seller said its soldered instead of welded. Some paint on the exterior will have to be removed too.
Anyone ever remove paint from metal??

Glad to hear you bought the tub!
I like the idea of using as a koi pond or a cooler for parties. I'm sooooo jealous--I'd love to have something like that!

They were soldered; tin and welding don't mix very well as the tin melts with that kind of heat. As to the paint, check hardware stores, etc for metal friendly paint removers, but be careful, will be lead based. Also pick up a few tins of Nevr-Dull to clean it up after; it will remove most of the discolourations and spiff up resoldered seams

Thanks for the tips. We can solder any seams or I can still have my friend do if needed.

Thanks for the tips on the other products. I'll have an early spring project.

I'll post pictures when complete.
