Tolly needs TCS vibes please

Tolly is having his dental tomorrow, please send us your strongest vibes and well wishes.

Tolly is 12 years old, he has a seizure disorder for which he takes phenobarbital (for the past 9 years). He has liver damage from the phenobarbital, which is being controlled with denosyl.

At his four month check up on February 8th, the vet found a heart murmur, this is brand new, and she said on a grade 1-4 she would give it less than a 1. It was not there four months ago. (this is why my cats, the healthy ones, get check ups every six months. Tolly was at every three months and recently graduated to every four)

Of course I worry about the anesthesia, though I trust my vet, she uses sevoflurane gas anesthesia, the safest and fastest acting available.

Tolly doesn't have many teeth left due to FORL (also called resorptive lesions or neck lesions) problems in the past. He has no signs of any resorptive lesions at the present time, but there's lots of tartar, he is prone to it, in spite of my efforts of home care, and his gums are starting to show some gingivitis.

Vet does not think he needs any extractions, but of course won't know for sure until she sees what's under the tartar.

Vet does not think Tolly's teeth are bothering him yet, but I disagree. When his teeth hurt he doesn't want to eat his canned food, he only wants kibble.

When his teeth hurt he runs away or protests when he has to take his pills. That's the only time, he's always been an angel taking his pills, thank goodness, since he has been taking two or three a day most of his life. But when his teeth are bothering him, he doens't like to take them.

Also, when his teeth hurt, he plays less.

All of these things I have been observing recently, so since his blood work shows everything in normal range, he's getting the dental tomorrow.

Anyway I guess that got kind of long, haha. Please send out those loving TCS vibes for my Tolly Sweet Pea tomorrow, I know they work, and they also help me, too.

Thank you from me and Tolly.

Thanks you guys. Spare some for me too, okay? I'm a nervous wreck.

Here are two of my favorite pictures of my Tolly. He's as sweet as he looks in them

Awwww.... Tolly, you so cute!
Funny, he acts just like Bugsy does when his gums bothers him - particularly about wanting more dry food then wet, and playing less - Bugsy is the same exact way
All vibes going your and Tolly's way my dear, The kitties will be purring and I will be praying for him and for you too - I know well how nerve wracking it is to be on the waiting - he will be ok though

Aw, Tolly does look so sweet! I especially like the first picture where he is looking out of the corner of his eye. But the 2nd picture is just as good.

I'm sorry he is feeling poorly with his teeth hurting. I know just how nerve wracking the whole business is. But, he's going to be ok.

Lots of to you, and, of course to your sweet guy.

Oh wow, THANK YOU ALL!

I'll be bringing him in in 45 minutes. The worst part for me I think is how scared he will be in that time between being taken from me, and when he is given anesthesia. I can't bear for him to be scared even for a minute.

I'll be posting an update as soon as I know. I'm working this morning and will be back home around 1 pm (EST). Hopefully by then I will have news.

Oh my gosh, my vet is so amazing. The standard procedure for a cat having a dental (or any surgery) is the owner drops the cat off, a tech comes out and takes kitty away, and that is the last you see of one another until pick up time.

My vet left instructions that Tolly and I were to be shown into a room when we got there, and to wait for her. I was allowed to be with Tolly all through his pre anesthetic exam, so he wasn't as frightened and alone and wondering where I was.

By the time she did take him away, he was going directly to the surgery to be gassed down.

And so I left smiling instead of in tears after leaving a cat at the vet, for the first time ever.

Aw, things must be different out where you are. Here it's standard policy to manage things that way - if the cat isn't ready or in proper health to undergo anesthesia, they want kitty's mom or dad to be able to take them back home with them.

all went well and no complications!

Hurray! Tolly is done, no extractions! They said I could pick him up now except I have to work, oh how I wish I could pick him up early, but I don't want to leave him home alone until I get done with work so he will have to wait.

Thank you so much for all your support and vibes, it really really helps.

If I had it to do over again, I would've firmly requested this when I brought Holland in for her dental last year. I don't know what her vet would have said, but it sure would have helped me a LOT not having to drop her off with strangers, worrying about how scared and alone she was before they knocked her out.

I'm glad to hear that Tolly is doing well!

I'm so glad that everything went well for Tolly during his surgery! I bet he can't wait for you to pick him up, and bring him home! You've got a beautiful cat there!

I was rolling on the floor laughing so hard. You know how, when a cat comes home smelling like vet, especially after anesthesia, usually it's the cats left at home doing the hissing, because the cat at the vet smells like a stranger now.

Well not my crew. Tolly was stalking around beating everyone up! Tolly, my sweet boy who loves everyone, was giving Mazy and Queen Eva what for every time they came near him. Queen Eva especially is beside herself wanting to sniff and Nurse him, Mazy, after two tries, simply put herself up out of Tolly's way.

Jennie, after observing all of this, chose to keep her distance.

Perhaps it's just that he didn't want to share me. He doesn't like to let me out of his sight since he's been home, he starts calling very loudly if he can't see me. Of course the very first thing I did was get on the floor and let him wind around me and bump his head up for kisses, while he told me all about it in very loud tones.

But Mazy and Queen Eva tried to come over to see him and he thumped them each to the floor. They backed away but he went after each of them again and thumped them down again. That was when Mazy decided it was safer up on the perch but Queen Eva continues to circle and sniff, but out of range.

While he was at the vet after his dental they put him in a big cage so he could have his carrier in there with him. So he could have "his stuff" with Himself. The tech said he just hung out in his carrier all afternoon.

Now we've been home a little while and Tolly's had quite a bit of supper and his first clindamycin tablet, he will be on them for five days.

The above post got so long I thought I'd make a new one to post some pics

Tolly resting after half an hour of telling me all about his trials and tribulations

After a snack (you can see where his IV was)

Nurse Queen Eva, while respecting Tolly's desire to not be pestered, is staying on the Job.

Tolly probably thinks the others should have changed their scent to smell like him. no extractions.
