A bad scare!

I'm working from home today recovering from a bad cold. A few minutes ago I was just sitting down to eat my lunch when I looked out the front window and saw a kitty looking in at me from outside. That kitty was PRIA! She must have escaped when I went out to get the mail, so she was outside for a good 10 minutes before I noticed her. I ran right out and scooped her up and she was no worse for wear. To make it up to her I shared some yogurt with her! I'll be keeping a close eye on the little turkey from here on in. I just about had a heart attack when I saw her!

You must have been terrified! It's good that she just let you scoop her up and bring her in, if Wessie escapes, you have to run all over figuring out a way to capture him. The only problem I have with him being outside is that our neighbor might shoot him. We know that he usually doesn't go far from home.

I had something similar happen with Carly. Right after we got her, my husband had gone outside with a painting contractor to discuss a bid. As I was opening the door to join them, I saw Carly trotting up the driveway heading for the door. I was so relieved because we hadn't missed her.

Mollipop did that. I was on the back deck talking to a neighbor. We turned around and there she was, sitting right behind us and looking so pleased .... she walked through the screen to the door! I acted very nonchalant, even though my heart was in my throat, reached down and quickly scooped her up. And we reinforced that screen!

Glad Pria is OK!

Yikes!
I'm glad you noticed her! That would be terrifying for both of you, but I'm sure she enjoyed her yoghurt.

I have had a couple scares like that, I know that moment of shock. I'm glad Pria is safe!

Ooh! I'm glad she was looking in the window when you happened to glance over. She was probably all, "hey....I think I'm supposed to be in there!" Glad you got her safely inside.

The exact same thing happened to me last week. For all the care I try to take to make sure Calvin and Hobbes are doing ok, I can do some careless things. It's nearly 3 months since I've had the first kitty and I am still discovering things that I need to do to ensure safety. The mailwoman had left a box on our front door and while headed to the door to fetch it, I saw Calvin go to Hobbes's room to play. I returned to check on them since I did not hear any noise from that room, Hobbes was alone. So I called Calvin, checked the house - all 3 floors and then it dawned on me to look outside. Calvin was there, chasing leaves right in front of the house. I scooped him up and brought him inside and he protested. He's gone a couple of times to the front door and screamed to be let out. It was a gorgeous day and all the snow had melted. Don't know what it would have been if we had our normal 6 inches of snow. I felt so so guilty.

Oh my! I'm sure you were relieved that you caught her.

It is amazing (and great) that none of my cats try to get out, considering that they were all strays before coming to the shelter where I got them. I guess they know they've got it good now.

Sometimes, when I'm getting the mail, Lily will be right by the door and I block her getting out. She doesn't try very hard though. I always tell her, "No,you can't go out because I can't do without you " It seems to mollify her.

I had two black cats, siblings, who ran outside and all over the neighborhood any chance they got. It took hours to get them back and it was so frustrating. One, when she was about 18 got picked up by the police as "cats at large" were illegal in that town. She was my mother's cat then because I had gone away to college. My mother had to go to the pound to get her, and then to court over this. But the judge dismissed the charge saying, "Isn't that what cats do?"

But this all started with those two because when I was a teen I took them out in the yard to enjoy the fresh air. They liked it too much. And because of them, I don't let this crowd out at all. I'd feel guilty except they don't seem to care. Lily is the one who most recently lost her freedom, and that was over 2 years ago when she arrived at the shelter.

I don't know how you keep track of all your kitties. Sometimes I loose track and I only have one.

If I had to count that many noses I never get out of the house!

Good thing that you noticed her so quickly.

Oh dear, I've been there before too, I know that feeling also. I'm so glad it turned out okay!
When Kuan Yin was a kitten she did this a few times to me but she never left our driveway.
Hestia on the other hand will run like heck and return when she's good and ready, I've gotten a few gray hairs from that girl, for 13 years old she's lightning fast when she wants to be

That brings back some horrible memories for me. I had the window cleaner at the door to collect his money last summer. I thought i had clicked the porch door behind me before i opened the front door, and as we chatted i saw him look down a couple of times????. When i looked down there was Rosie standing by my side! I drew a sharp intake of breath and quietly said "Don't let her run!!" then slowly put my hand on her.

I felt sick!!! I always double check the doors and where they are in the house, but i'm even more cautious now because that's never happened in the 8 years i've had cats

We are truly blessed. They all avoid the door like the plague.

I have to watch Pixie when dad is letting his dog out but other than that she normally doesn't seem interested in the door but she doesn't like for any of the internal doors to be shut she is upset because I cleaned up my closet and I can close the closet doors now. What's funny is the other day dad's dog acted like she wanted out dad got up to let her out and she stopped and stared at Pixie and daddy said the cat can't go out and she barked at Pixie and then looked at the door and then she wouldn't go out.

Most of them have no interest in going anywhere near the door. Imhotep used to run out years ago when he was younger, but he luckily grew out of it. I have noticed Pria around the door when we go in and out, but never thought she'd escape. At least I now know I have to be VERY careful!

Wow, that would have scared the begeebers out of me! So glad you got the little miss back in safely!

Oh my! Naughty girl! Glad you got her in safe and sound!

A few years ago my parent's had a neighbor's cat that liked to come look in their front door (the have one of those all glass storm doors). Not sure if he/she was a "friend" of my mother's cats or if he was just truly a peeping-tom! LOL!

Wow sorry you are home sick, but I am sure you glad you were!!! Pria was probably looking in the window wondering why she was out there and you were inside enjoying your lunch. So glad you saw your girl

My Chester is afraid of everything and if anything comes near the door he hides. Imagine my surprise when one day I was coming in and he ran past me into the hallway.

He was half way to the elevator before I could get him to come back in.

At first I just froze because I was so surprised. Then I had to think of a way to get him back in. I can't run and he runs when I try to pick him up. Then I decided to get the treats and entice him back in.

Then I started thinking about how I was going to keep the door open while I went for the treats. If it slammed shut it would scare him more and cut off his way back in.

Finally I just dropped my stuff and it held the door open so I could get in and get the treats.

True it would have been worse if he was outside but it scared me to think of what could have happened. One of the neighbors could have got off the elevator with a dog. Not all the dogs in this building like cats.

Now I am very careful when I come in the door.

Rusty bolted out the door one morning a couple of years ago. She made is just to the dirt area and stopped. The ground was wet and frosty. She kinda look perplexed and I told her to get back into the apartment. She came running back in. She did not like the frosty ground.

She now will run to the screen door when she sees the stray cat that hangs around. She does not like that cat one bit!

Tex is my door darter. I can't come and go through the front door - he is fast fast fast and WILL zip past me. Last time he climbed a 30 foot spruce tree! but came down on his own. He was cold and all alone. Don't think he liked that, but it doesn't stop him from trying to get out there to go after the birds and squirrels.
