Hello everyone (I'm new to this website and forums), just recently (yesterday in fact) we moved house from our rather small house to a quite large bungalow. Our cat, Tom, moved with us yesterday. We own both houses so we didn't 'move all at once' with moving men and many boxes as my parents are able to take stuff from house to house during their work day. So, my cat witnessed some moving around, and he knew something was going on (but he didn't know what exactly (he had this sort of worried face)). However, we tried to keep on our normal schedual and he slept on my bed like usual. The next day, we (the people and Tom) moved house. Tom was rather tense in the car (probably because he thought we were going to the vet as that's the only place he travels by car (the vet isn't a good place for him as a while ago (7/8 months) he caught some sort of cat flu and needed to be taken to the emergency vet in the middle of the night and he got injections and he had to stay over the night) and he had the odd meow here and there. I kept comforting him, by saying "Tom it's okay" and stuff.
When we arrived at the new house, I put Tom into a room with his litter box, water and some food. He seemed really scared as he kept wondering about the room wanting to go outside (to get back to the old house), but I did some research and we're not letting him out for 3 weeks or so (I should tell you he's normally an outdoor/indoor cat with the option of either available to him).
At night, I set him on my bed (like we did before) but this time he just stayed up the night. He was like sitting on the bed (whilst being petted by me) but he did not seem to fall asleep the entire night (neither did I, which led me to these forums).
This morning, he finally urinated in his litter box (I had a feeling he was holding it in) but he has not eaten any food or drank any water (as far as I know). At the moment, he is finally sleeping beside me, but he wakes up at the slightest of noise.
I am wondering if my cat is acting nomally? Not eating or drinking, little sleep, doesn't seem to like to relieve himself. How long will it take for him to settle in? I have to return to school next Monday (the rest of my family are either at school/work) and he will be at home alone for like 4/5 hours then (per day until my mom gets home). Is he going to be okay?
I am quite worried about him, he is my only cat and I absolutely love him.
Thanks,
Your friend,
Azka.

But within a few days her fear turns to curiosity as she begins to explore her new surroundings, and eventually she has become quite comfortable in every place we have lived. She also tended to eat poorly right after a move, which of course affects litter box use. I just spent as much time as possible with her after moving, to help her feel safe and at home.
