Training to Love People?

Hi All,

Just got a adorable 7 month old gray tabby. He grew up in a shelter nursery and appears to not have had a whole lot of people time. He sure loves to play with this co-adoptee who is quite the opposite (follows you whereever you go). We really want to help him be a people cat too.

Would love to hear your suggestions on selling him on the joys of people?

The best things to do are to associate yourself with good things, like playing and food. He will eventually realize you feed him, and will become ore affectionate. Also, try to spend as mch time near him as possible, even if you're just reading a book. Constant human contact and interaction is the only way your kitten is going to learn to be more affectionate toward people. Since he is a kitten, I think all he'll need is a little push in the right direction and he could be a very affectionate kitty.

Spend a lot of time playing with him, and feed him. Talk gently to him. Don't force him to be held or patted.
