My Tom is in the hospital because he has Utheral obstruction.
For those who have gone through it, do cats get back to normal if he got catherterizaion?
Will he survie and lead a normal life with a proper diet?
I am worried because I've read that the obstruction can happen again.
If treated properly, will that happen again?
I've chosen to have him hospitalized so that they can keep an eye on him and give him his meds because I always have a tough time giving medication.
Thanks.

He will survive and lead a healthy life, but you will have to keep him on some special foods since you know he is prone to blockages. There is an increased likelihood of it happening again, but that can be limited with rx food.

My boy Farley V obstructed when he was about a year or so old. He lived to be 12 years old and never obstructed again.

Beeba obstructed twice within a couple weeks. It was taken care of by the vet again, and now two years later, he is fine. I honestly don't envision it happening again.

Correct food, water and a watchful owner will most times clear this nasty thing up. Try to relax. You will become a litter watcher like all of us other parents of crystal kitties.....it's isn't so bad.

It is scary at the time it is happening. But like I said, the food is very important. Talk to your vet, he will be able to tell you how this happened. Knowledge is power. The more you know, the more power you have over your fears.

God bless and keep us posted. I hope he comes home soon.

Just called the vet and he is doing a lot better!
He was finally able to eat and that he is now very alert!
I am going to see him this afternoon.
They told me that I had made the right decision in leaving him over the weekend because he really needed the catherization on Saturday.
He will probably come home tomorrow.
Thank you all for your replies.
I feel better knowing that he can lead a normal, healthy life with a proper diet.
Angie.

What Farley said - and you will be so happy when you see the nice normal pee clumps.
