I posted a bit about this situation in the behavior board. But I'll post here too if you don't mind.

I've already got 2 kitties- a 1 year old named Holly and a 10 year old named Sneaky.

Well- last week my neighbors next door drove out to move his sister here. It's a long story- short version is she's got problems and a non-supportive family. So her brother stepped in to help her.

She also had this 10 year old cat. That was about the only thing back home that loved her. They'd found her an apartment that took cats. Last Monday that apt fell through- but she was able to find a 1-bedroom. That did not accept pets. So- she did a very hard thing and said she'd give up the cat. But since she was very attached to it- sending him to the shelter where the ending probably wouldn't be very happy wasn't really an option. So he got to take an 18 hour ride in the car to here.

And this is where we come in. She's allergic to cats, and asked us to take him. I really didn't want to. Then she told us that she'd already taken him to the vet- got all of his shots current for the year, got flea treatment (he had fleas and had pulled out all of his fur on his back). And she had a 16 lb bag of food, a dozen toys, a half dozen bags of treats, 2 cages and a Drinkwell fountain. And he's already fixed. How could I say no?

Only down side is that he's declawed. So going outside is NOT an option. Not with the critters that live in the woods behind our house. Holly isn't exactly chomping at the bit to go out either, so I'm used to litter boxes now.

He came to live with us last night. All he does is hide. He spent most of the day under the couch. I finally had to pry him from under the couch b/c he hadn't eaten, drank or used the litter box all day.

My 2 aren't exactly happy. Sneaky is afraid of the Drinkwell and would rather drink out of the toilet
Both just hide from him. The funny thing is- I think this cat is at least as afraid of them as they are of him. I know it'll take time. And letting him have the garage as "his" space at the moment is probably a good thing.

I hope he'll eventually come out of his shell. He's such a pretty cat, and when the fur fully grows back on his hind parts he'll be really pretty.
