My Tom

I am going through the same thing right now.
I took my Tom yesterday because he was lethargic, no appetite and had blood in his urine.
They told me that I had taken him just in time.
He was obstructed and they are putting a catherer(?) to relieve him.
I chose to have him hospitalized for the weekend.
They told me that he will make it but right now, I am so nervous.
Does you have any experience with this ilness?
Will the cat suvive? With treatment he's getting will he get back to normal?
Thanks you.

He was diagnosed with a UTI? Unfortunately, that's something a lot of members, including myself, have experience with.

Apart from the catheterization, they'll put him on antibiotics, and possibly painkillers. You'll have to switch him to a prescription diet to prevent a recurrence and keep a close eye on him, but he should make a full recovery. It's very important that he drinks a lot, so you'll have to be sure to have water bowls scattered throughout your home or perhaps invest in a water fountain.

Many that he's feeling better soon.

Yep, ditto.

My Beeba had struvite crystals. Was blocked and was sure looking poorly at the vets. He had to be cathed and flushed a couple times before he could go home. He put him on a urine acidifier, antibiotics, and s/d food for 2 months. Then he went to c/d food for maintenance. The food is just as important as the meds. I think magneseum is a big culprit for forming crystals.

It has been over 2 years now, and Beeb is going strong on the c/d. A water fountain works wonders sometimes getting kitty to drink. The more water that goes into your cat, the better. Keep him eliminating more frequently, and less time for crystals to form.

There are people who object to the prescription food. But you have to look at it as medicine....because that is what it is.

You are great to have taken him into the vet so quickly. This is fairly common in neutered males. It is worrysome, but treatable.

Good luck to you and your kitty. I am sure he will be fine in no time.

I have had two male cats with this problem. Fortunately they always recovered. Speedboat is no longer here. Muffin is still doing well,. He eats Hills prescription food and I only give him filtered water to drink. Your cat should make a full recovery. But there is some maintenance required going forward.

Good luck - my boy had struvite crystals and had some peeing problems, but was never blocked, thank goodness. So far, Hills C/D has done the trick...I also have a fountain and try to get him to eat wet C/D...he likes his dry C/D better - what can you do.
