We are having 1/2 of a leftover homemade meat pie, chicken wings, baked potatoes, peas, corn, olives and cottage cheese. Then for dessert (later) we are having apple pie (as soon as SO makes it). He likes to have his dessert later in the evening rather than right after dinner.
It looked yummy, and sounded yummy, and even looked "professional" when I was finished cooking it. But it was just "ok", and nothing spectacular like my brain imagined!
And deep fried Mars bar? Definitely not up my alley!
And the cleanup?! OMG!!! Way too long! Took me all evening.
Between letting the oil cool, straining it, and washing all of the individual fryer parts and other dishes I used when straining the oil to rebottle it, I must have used a 1/2 bottle of dish soap before it was all degreased!
Next time I want fish and chips, I'll go out! Let someone else do all of that cleaning!!!
I had a big salad.... lettuce, cauliflower, broccoli, shreaded carrots, cucumber, red beans, cheese, olives, croutons, bacon bits and avocado with ranch dressing. Oh and some fresh, baked chocolate chip cookies.
Eurggghh no, not deep fried mars bar, there was a phase where alot of chippies around here did that and it never appealed to me, it seems to have phased out now.I do however love beer batter, you can buy beer batter chips here http://www.mccainitsallgood.co.uk/be...ered-chips.php
These are really yummy, I wouldn't make them myself though, far too much mess, I don't envy all your greasy cleaning, I hate chip oil.
For dinner today its a sunday roast, roast chicken with roast new potatoes, boiled carrots, leeks, cabbage, cheesy mashed potato, yorkshire puddings, stuffing and chicken gravy. Can't wait.xx
I'm cooking it righ now! (Yeah, I know it's 9:45 AM!)
Since we're working all weekend on insulating the attic, I decided to let dinner cook itself: slow-cooker pulled beef roast with mushroom gravy, served over egg noodles, with a vegetable (not decided on that yet!). We were supposed to dine at the country club last night or tonight, but I nixed those plans, since DH was exhausted (how I love to say, "Dine at the country club." In reality, anyone can use their restaurant, which is beautiful and reasonably-priced; but it just sounds so LUXE, doesn't it?
There's a nice chicken roasting in my Nesco roaster. It's stuffed with cornbread and herbs, along with caramelized onions and sauteed carrots and one Granny Smith apple. We are also having mashed potatoes and gravy and I'll be making simple green peas. Dessert is a custard bread pudding.
DH should be home from Virginia in about two hours. And dinner should be ready about the time he pulls into the driveway. I hope. He just texted me to tell me where he was, so I was able to get the chicken in the roaster right around the same time.
Spaghetti with homemade meatballs, salad, Italian bread for dinner, and then a chocolate cupcake and some fudge for dessert. (Belated birthday dinner at my parents' house).
