Adult cat ignoring my husband

Hi

The back story: Had an adult cat. Got a kitten ~5 yrs ago. Extremely affectionate to everyone but obsessed w/my husband. Constantly seeking his attention, curling up on his shoulder, etc.

When she was a few months old, one day she was playing on my lap and found my hair. She became obsessed w/me and playing w/my hair. She follows me everywhere, cries if I am on the other side of a closed door, etc.

All these yrs she has preferred me but still affectionate w/my husband. Last few months, all of a sudden, she completely ignores him. Completely--won't even turn her head when he calls her. It's bothering him. She is cooler than usual w/me too, but still cuddly.

No new pets, new things in the house, haven't been out of town, etc.

Wondering what we can do to get her back to being his pet too.

Have him take over feeding and taking care of the litter boxes on a regular schedule. Have him play with her interactively with a fishing pole type toy. Also, the two of you may want to look into doing some training with her. Naughty No More is a good reference for some positive reinforcement training. She may not need a lot of training but the interaction would create a better bond between them.

We adopted 2 kittens who are heck on wheels and the 2 older cats really were mad at us. I've started doing training with the kittens and one of the older ones and I'm finding the older one has become more affectionate with me and wanting to engage with me outside of the training. (the other older one is another story).

Dogs will love you just if you present yourself as alpha, even if mean to them. Cats though actually half self-respect and are a bit more self-interested, heh.

So I agree, I think its as simple as affiliating yourself with positive things and fulfilling needs. All cats that I know of like to play and eat, so that's where I'd start.

BTW, and could be total coincidence, but my cats LOVE Dove Men's Deep-Clean bar soap. Fresh out of the shower, and they have the zeal of alien face-huggers and its hard to get em off me.
