Blood from the nose

My cat, Zeppelin, is 20 years old. A little over a week ago, he had a grand mal seizure. I know his time is short, but I've been making every possible effort to keep him comfortable. Anyway, about half an hour ago, he was laying in my arms, and suddenly it sounded like he was congested. He blew his nose, and there were bubbles of blood. I was going to rush him to the emergency vet, but he sorta... snapped out of it, and he drank some water, ate some food, and just generally seems more alert than he's been for the past few days.

I definitely don't want to put undue pressure on him by rushing him to the vet right now, but I'll definitely take him in tomorrow. Is there anything I should do, or does anyone know what this could be an indication of?

I'm so sorry, Streambeck. This is awful. -huggles- I can't give you any advice about the nose-bleed but I'll be sending lots and lots of vibes your way in sympathy for you and Zeppelin. I'm sure you'll shower him with love and he'll head to the Rainbow Bridge knowing that you love him lots and lots.

Twenty years is such a milestone. It sure says a lot about the care you have given him.

I will keep you in my prayers. I don't have any experience with this, but sometimes prayer is just as good.

I hope it's nothing serious. Nose bleeds can have many different causes from an irritation in the nose to tumors. I'm not sure about cats but I do know that humans can have a nose bleed before they have a seizure. It's possible that there is a connection. I would at least call the vet to get their opinion. Hopefully he just has an irritated nose.

Good luck

Thanks for the well wishes. The bleeding became much more excessive, and I rushed him to the emergency vet at about 2 in the morning. Today I took him to the family vet, and they offered tests, but all of the tests were stress-inducive, and all signs pointed towards a brain tumor. The past several weeks had been an enormous struggle for Zeppy, and I decided, very reluctantly, that anything else that could be done moving forward in an effort to help him would be for my own sake and well-being, and not his. I decided it was best, for him, to be at peace.

Zeppelin had been a part of my life since I was just in elementary school, and I seriously hope, more than I can say, that I did right by him.

I never really frequented this site, but everyone here was always extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and supportive. The times I did ask for advice, it contributed to Zeppy and his brother having a better quality of life, and I sincerely appreciate it. Thanks again for the support, and thanks on Zeppy's behalf as well.

I'm very sorry for your loss. RIP, Zeppy.
When you feel up to it, you can post a thread about him in the Crossing The Bridge forum.

So sorry to hear of your loss. He must have had a great home and the best possible care to live to such a great age.

I'm so sorry that you had to let him go, but as you know it was the right decision for him. He's had a long wonderful life and it was time to move on to the next round. I hope you'll be okay. You're a good cat "mama"
