Good Morning folks

After a long conversation with my brother via skype, I started thinking:

Is anyone on here a vegetarian or vegan?

My brother is a vegetarian and has been for about 5 years now. As for me, I need meat. I like fruits and vegetables as much as anyone else, but I need something more.

My brother is vegetarian. Almost vegan--not by choice--because he's also lactose intolerant. He used to eat fish but I think he stopped that. He has always been a very picky eater and never really liked meat anyway.

I have tried to go vegetarian a few times, but it's hard
. My biggest downfall is bacon. It's just too yummy! Plus I don't like the extra work of trying to find non-meat sources of certain nutrients. I compromise by not eating meat at home. That's not hard for me, because handling raw meat and the smell of cooking meat completely disgust me. But I'll still eat meat at other people's houses or at a restaurant.

I'm vegetarian. I stopped eating mammals and birds in 1995., after consuming little of those for 10 years before that. I stopped eating fish and all other seafood about 12 years ago. I'm not vegan and don't want to be.

I'm very happy and content with this choice. For me there are many reasons to be a vegetarian - philosophical, healthful, and spiritual.

And, it's not hard at all.

Not at all! I am a carnivore lol! I will eat fruits and veggies and the occasional salad for a meal, but 99% of the time there is a meat! I am actually odd because I will crave meat instead of chocolates. Don't know why but I will get in a mood where I have to have something meaty. That and I absolutely love a medium rare steak, that may be my ultimate weakness.

I'm vegetarian, and almost vegan (lactose intollerant and not comfortable with the idea of drinking milk). I stopped eating red meat as a young teen and chicken/seafood a few years later.

No, my diet is restricted enough as it is. Meat is safe to eat (mostly) and I desperately need any nutrients I can get from it.
If I had to resort to eating vegan/vegetarian type products it'd likely eventually kill me...

I'm not, I eat very little meat though. I just eat whatever I can cook and I can't stand touching raw meat, so cooking it is out of the question

when I eat out, I loove meat, the more fat the better

I doubt him being lactose intolerant is his reason for choosing to be vegan. All lactose inolerance is is the inability to properly digest the sugars contained in dairy products. There is no lactose in meat, fish or poultry.

To answer the question, I went vegetarian (no meat, fish, poultry) for about 18 months by necessity. I was on long term disability. It was a fixed amount which meant that it stayed the same while everything around me when up in price, which ate into my food budget and eventually got to a point where I could no longer afford to buy meat/fish/dairy if I wanted to have food for the entire month. Now I wasn't strict. I still ate eggs and dairy (lactose free stuff), and if I went out somewhere and they were serving meat, I would eat it, but at home I didn't buy it or eat it.

I can't say I enjoyed it very much. I found the meals less than satisfying. I don't mind eating vegetarian occasionally through the week, in fact it's good to have meatless days. However, I love my medium rare steak, lamb chops, grilled fish, and chicken too much to voluntarily give it up on a permanent basis.

This for me too!

I could probably live without meat if I had to though, I don't love it. DH would die without it though.

Ummm??? I know there's no lactose in meat products. I didn't imply otherwise (I don't think). I probably worded something wrong.

He is vegetarian by choice. He will not eat anything that once had a face or a mother. The "almost vegan" part is not by choice but by necessity due to the lactose intolerance. He will eat eggs and honey and whatever else vegans don't eat, but no milk products.

I try to eat a balanced diet that includes meat, fruits, veggies, and grains, etc. I think moderation and a healthy balance is the best lifestyle choice for me.

I could probably become a vegetarian without a lot of hassle. I can eat meat, or not. No biggie. We do eat meatless now at least twice a week. DH, OTOH? Not so much.....the man likes his beef from time to time.
