as some of you might know on tuesday i had the stray pregnant cat spayed, everything went well and kept her indoor till the area heals, she has been out in my garage and patio since thursday. i went home for lunch and i checked on her and noticed swelling around the stitches about 1/2 inch on each side of the stitches and i gently touch that area and it feels like lump or tumor..
it is not discolored or no bloody leaking and stitches are all out there. she is doing fine and acts normal, call the vet and the tech told me that it could be the skin raection to the stitches and keep an eye on it. (so sad that they can even talk to doctor and get her opinion!!)
has anyone notice anything similar or should i take her to vet. i am little worried! as far as i know the swelling was not there yesterday morning.

I'd be off to the vet.... but I do think I've seen something about this here. I even think I've seen a thread with pictures - and if I remember correctly, everything was OK, it wasn't an infection. I'll have to go see if I can find it.

OK, it sounds very much like this (I think) - ???? http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=199401

It sounds like you should keep an eye on it - and if it gets worse, or it's red - and DEFINITELY if there's any discharge - get her to a vet. But apparently the "hard" feeling is normal, especially if they're internal sutures (they did use the dissolving stitches, right? You don't need to take her back to have them removed, right?)

When Autumn was spayed she got a lump, she didn't have stitches she had glue. They said it was an allergic reaction to the glue. She was given Amoxicillin, and it worked.

When my kitty was spayed, her stitched area had a lump and was very swollen and red. Concerned, I took her back to the vet. She was fine. No meds or anything else and it healed up just fine.
So she's probably fine, but a quick visit to the vet might give you peace of mind!

thanks for quick response i really appreciate that. yes it is exactly the same symptoms on the link you posted. i guess i wait till tomorrow hope does not get worse.
i am just frostrated because i can't let her in my place, my female cat does not care for her and i have no room to put her because my cats they are going to go wild finding what is the bathroom or walking closet or why is the doors are closed!!!!
i kept her in the garage for 2 days put sheets on the floor everywhere to stay clean in case. but now she is out and probably getting dirt all over it!!

i just came home from work and had a better chance of looking at her sticthes area, the swelling is the same no color change it is the same as the rest of her shaved skin, the area looks dry and no visible dry blood, when i touched the area it is warm like the rest, hope that is the good sign and she does not feel pain when i was touching it. she is eating and purring the same time.
keeping my finger crossed for improvement!

I have noticed that about 3/4 of the cats I've had spayed develop a bump like that. My vet also said it's a reaction to the stitches, and general swelling as part of the healing process. Sometimes the bump stays 2 weeks or more, sometimes it goes away faster. But as long as it's not very weepy (a small amount of seepage is OK) or angry red and inflamed, she should be fine. If anything changes, just give the vet another call. They're used to it
