Can separation anxiety make cats sick?

Hi there! I'm writing because I'm looking into getting an out of state internship this summer and I'm thinking I might have to take my 10 month old kitten Jasper with me. During December, I went to visit my dad for a week, leaving Jasper in the care of my mom because my stepmom is very allergic to cats. Jasper stays in my room because he doesn't get along with our other cat so he's very attached to me. Jasper was always very healthy and nothing was different in that week besides the fact that I wasn't there. Since I got him at 10 weeks, he'd only ever thrown up twice and both times were food related. After finding a better diet, he was fine but that week he must've thrown up a couple times a day with no explanation. The day I came back it suddenly stopped and he seemed as healthy as ever. Is this something I'll have to worry about in the future? Will I have to take him with me if I ever take another trip?

I personally believe it can happen, especially if the cat is pretty attached to you. I've seen varying degrees of it happening here.

It's possible he's very attached to you, and he get's stressed when you are gone.

Yes, cats can get sick from the grief and anxiety of being separated from their person. If you think he is a good traveler and adaptable to change, and you can, by all means take him with you.

Giving the fact that your cat is attached to you and doesn’t get along with other cats, I’m sure, that he can get sick from the grief and anxiety of being separated from you. Good Luck.
