Snakes!

I have two lovely cats and a beautiful young corn snake. I love snakes, care for the ones at work (I work at a pet store) and I enjoyed spending time with the work snakes so much that I had to bring home a snake of my own! My corn's name is Khan, as in the Wrath of Khan because I'm a scifi nerd.

So, how do the cats and the snake get along?

They stare at each other.

Marcus engages in long, epic staring sessions, settling down in front of the tank, tucking his paws in, and waiting for something to happen. Now, mostly it doesn't, because snakes are shy creatures that spend most of their time hiding. But every so often, Khan comes out and he and Marcus will stare at each other for a long time.

When I take Khan out for handling, I have to keep the kitties away because they keep trying to play with him! Of course thoroughly freaking out my poor snake.

So, who else has snakes and thinks they are awesome?

I don't have one right now - did have a ribbon snake. I love the corn and king snakes and would like to own some again. Hubby says I have enough pets now....lol

I never had a snake. I have a cousin who had tons of snakes and other reptiles in the basement of his parents house. He even had an Anaconda.

I've held snakes before, my uncle owned a pet store once. I just don't think I'd own one.

My father grew up on my grandparents farm, and found garter snakes all the time. I only ever saw 1 there when I was little. My father said there were tons of them when he was little.

Heh. Not so sure anacondas are the best idea, but to each their own. Some reptile owners like the giant snakes and the venomous ones; I think for now my dear corn is enough for me. He's going into a shed cycle now, just saw him with the blue eyes today during feeding.

King snakes are so pretty! They come in SO many different colors.

One of my friends used to have a Childrens Python, it was a really great snake and had really pretty colours! I have always wanted a snake, but my parents never let me... Ugh...

We have 3 snakes: Boa Constrictor, Dumeril's Boa, and Blood Python. I'm not into the snakes as much as my husband is. We don't let the snakes interact with the cats. The snakes would most likely kill the cats. Whenever the snake enclosures are opened the cats have to be removed from the room and the door closed. Frida has tried to jump into the enclosures when opened before. She's small enough to be a meal.

I have 14 Ball Pythons and eggs on the way (yeee!!! I should have my first clutch in ~30 days)!

I don't really let the cats/dogs near the snakes, even though the snakes are too small to even eat my Chihuahua. Ball pythons are fat, laid back snakes so the cats don't really see them as a play toy. Enzo, my killer, might think differently of a corn snake though, lol.

I have a corn snake as well, she is just a baby and an Amel Stripe. We named her Skittles.

I've handled snakes before. I love how they feel--all smooth and warm. And I really want one. A corn snake would be great, but unfortunately, my mother's terrified of snakes. So I thought, you know, how about something with legs? So I showed her a picture of a tarantula I wanted, and she freaked out more. O_o; I just can't win.

But yeah, I definitely want one. Got pictures of Khan? ^^
