and no freaks involved. Well, my friend Chris may be a freak, but that's not what I meant.

Chris was going down the road yesterday in his Toys R Us truck when a car up ahead of him lost the motorized wheel-chair off the carrier on the back of the car. Traffic was heavy, and Chris had no where to go. I would guess about $2000 worth of damage to a truck that is only 3 months old.

That really stinks! I feel sorry for the person who lost the chair. Those are not cheap.

Actually this is the second time I have heard of a chair falling of the lift. The first was on her first trip out with the new lift and she didn't secure it properly. It is an expensive lesson to learn.

You just about can't damage any part of a car these days without it coming up to a couple thousand dollars. In this case, if we're lucky, it will just be two sections of the bumper, the supports, the fog light and turn signal/running light.

Apparently I had it wrong; they were carrying the thing on a U-Haul, although I don't know any specifics. But they will likely get a ticket for "failure to properly secure cargo." And, since that's essentially a truck ticket, it could be big, in excess of $500. Plus they lost the wheelchair and have to pay for the damage to our truck and any downtime it incurs (which is usually about $200/day).

A hint to everybody: If you have the insurance minimums, you are setting yourself up for years of grief.

One never knows what can happen on the highway. Everytime we get in a car, go from here to there and back home again all in one piece is a blessing.
Trucks and wheel chairs can be replaced. I am sorry for your damage to your new truck and to their chair.

Yeah, I feel sorry for the folks who lost the wheelchair. They said that they had secured it as the folks at U-Haul told them.

But keep in mind, as a truck driver, I see 100 different kinds of stupid on the roads every day. And not just by car drivers.
