Hi,

I have been friends with Paul since 7th grade, and unbeknownst to us for a long while, our brothers, who were in high school at the time, were also good friends. We've kept in touch for the 30 years since graduation, but what he's doing right now makes me so proud to have him as a friend.

Paul's dad lives near me, and has had an influx of stray cats in the last couple of years. The dad, almost 90 years old, began feeding the strays after his wife passed 2 years ago. Anyway, Paul took two of the cats and made them indoor cats and had them altered, but of course, a large colony now lives outside and in the shed. Some, of course, have succumbed to unfortunate fates, which distresses both Paul and his dad.

Paul was here over the holidays and we discussed his problem and options. Today when I was at the vet with Ziggy, Paul's dad was picking up two cats from their spays! I emailed Paul and he responded with:

"Let’s see . . . eight fertile female felines . . . spring around the corner. You do the math. I said we had to come up with a plan. First up was Tipper the old matriarch (who I suspect was already “with cat”) and Lady Grace, who is a sweet little 11-month old cutie who last week apparently danced with every fellow at the prom. Catching Grace was an adventure . . . but I managed it without getting mangled. She was literally climbing and bouncing off the walls in the house, so I had significant doubts as to whether the situation was even doable. But within a few hours I had her purring and eating out of my hand, so those two went down on Monday morning to see Dr. W."

LOL

He went on to give me the plans for the others:

"Next Monday we take three – Brown Betty, Buddy Boy, and Goldie, all about 6 months old. They have been staying inside, but they need to become outside cats or else be adopted by somebody. I convinced my Dad they were infinitely more adoptable if they’ve already been fixed. And had their rabies shot, of course. I dunno if we can find homes for them, but they are all sweet and well trained and will be less of an “issue” if they are fixed."

He would badly like to find permanent homes, preferably with a rescue that would take time to socialize the kitties and do some background checks on the new homes. Paul is a busy professional in the city, and takes care of his dad on weekends, so that is not an option for him.

Bless his heart for trying!!!

If anyone knows of anyone/any place that might be able to help in the DFW area, please let me know. He of course will be doing the altering (neutering some males, too), rabies shot, and will give donations (which he calls a dowry.)

Thanks for listening.

Cally

Aw that is so wonderful! I have terrible kitten fever; but DH isn't going for it and we don't live in that area either. Wish I knew someone to help!!

I think it's a great idea! Not sure who does anything like that around here, though.
