My cats licking his lips and being sick!?

My cat is 2 years old this year, he had an incident a few months ago where he got his leg caught in his colar and after he had funny walk, this continued and still months later he limps. We left this to see if there was any improvments, but recently, about 2 weeks ago he came home with his other leg all cut and hurt, we assumed he had been in a fight, he would not let us touch him. Eventually we held him down while putting anticeptic cream on him and washing his wounds in betadine and water! We continued to do so for a week after, its now completely healed. But we have started to notice the past week or more that hes licking his lips all the time, and he drinks water but no more than usual and when he starts to lick his lips we give him water but he doesnt want it. He looks a bit poorly too now and we noticed hes been sick a few times now too, he sometimes only has to take a wrong move or jump in the house and it sort of just instantly shoots out from his mouth! I dont know what to do about it as i thought maybe it was sickness from eating too much food as he is a fatty!! and the licking was from being sick but now i know something else is wrong? could anyone give me an ideas as to what could be wrong, as the vets in Portugal where i live, are very expensive and i dont like going unless i have to, i will be taking him to vets but thought i would ask what you guys think could be wrong first?
thanks for listening.
Robyn.

The only experience I have with excessive lip-licking is that my Scaredy did it constantly after she'd been spayed. I have come to realize, with all I've learned from this site, that she was more than likely in considerable pain.

Lip smacking is usually indicative of pain, upset stomach, and many other things. I think it's best to get your kitty to the vet and make sure all is well and nothing serious is going on.

Is the antiseptic ointment you've been applying specifically for cats? Of not it may be making your cat sick.

You really need to take him to the vet. He sounds bad off.

Lynxx did that, licking his lips, when he was sick. You really should bring your cat to the vet.

Yes, I agree. Was the antiseptic medicine especially for cats and the betadine solution. If not, the cat may be sick from this medicine. He really needs to be seen by a vet.

Hi,

I have no experience with this at all, having never seen any of my cats do that. I hope the vet can identify what is causing it. Hope he is better soon!

Hello sorry for delay.
Took him to the vets and she examined him, she never said anything about him being sick, she said it could be he needs his worming tablet. She looked at his leg, and she said watched him walk and he was limping bad, she took him for an xray and 20 mins later she told us he had infact 1 month before broke his hip on the left leg side. She said it had healed itself! and healed very well! she said its healed well but its still a slight out of line which will mean he will always limp but he will only have slight pain for 1 more month then it will be completely fine for him, to me as long as theres no pain for him, that limp is no problem! otherwise she said breaking his leg again would be more painful and then having surgury to put it right. also that would cost 600 euros so im happy his leg is ok, i still dont understand how i never knew it was broken from the start!! she said its rare that cats walk on there legs when they break them but the odd cat does not show any sign and just limps.i feel so bad tho!! my little man has broken his hip and i didnt even know! he must have had so much pain! also about the comments on the anticeptic cream, its specificaly for cats so that was ok but the betadine wasnt?? didnt know betadine could make him sick or there was an actual betadine specificly for cats? sinse then hes been ok although still being sick every now and then, but weve noticed its like yellow water!! and a lot of it!!i came home the other day and my bed was drenched, and it looked like a human had pissed everywhere there was so much! we sitting on sofa right now me and him and he looks like he wants to be sick which made me remember to come on here! his stomach pumps u can see it from the outside you can see its pumping like its trying to force him to be sick and he looks at me and half shuts his eyes and opens his mouths slighty and just sits there but then it stops and he puts his head down, i hate seeing him like this but hes fine the rest of the time!! and the vet never once said anything else was wrong with him so i dont understand, could it be his food?? still need to give him that worming tablet does that make cats sick?? i love my cat so much, hes like a child to me, it does worry me!! Id hate to think hes in pain!

Maybe you should try bringing him to another vet?
