So - after searching the net about litter "crystals" such as Tidy Cat Crystals and Fresh Step Crystals - I read most reviews saying the Purina tidy cat are the best... Knowing they are non existent in my neck of the woods I thought I would email Purina and say "Hey man, When you gunna ship some my way"?

My email clearly stated that I was in Canada and wondering why they are not available here, and when / if they might be?

Purina - decided to respond - in an epic "manual" fail
(( this is where they follow the manual to the letter in their responses and basically cut and paste their answer whether or not it truly makes sense". The answer?

"Canadian cats and USA cats have different litter needs, as such the product is not available in Canada".

I had to reply....

DIFFERENT litter needs?! OMG are AMERICAN cats pewpin out something different than Canuck cats?! Did I dodge a bullet getting a Canadian cat vs an American one?! Poo is poo, pee is pee. Next time deviate from your precious manual and try saying "It has not been approved for sale in Canada" - cuz I am pretty sure (I am no expert mind you) that a cat's litter needs are the same, no matter which country they may reside in :p

Just thought I would share this silly little event with you all.

So what happens to the kittens that are the product of an American cat, mating with a Canadian cat?

Canadian VS. American: The cat pee/poop controversary
. I guess it is so much colder in your neck of the woods that your cat's poop dehydrates all on it's own, no crystal litter needed!!!
. Interesting....

Parts of Canada are warmer than some parts of the US so this isn't a valid argument either, although considering the response from Purina, it isn't likely they are aware of that fact either. LOL

It will be interesting to see if you get a response back.

I would reply in a few days

After our email about different needs I talked to an american buddy who was coming up. she brought up the fresh step by accident but its ok I LOVE THEM!!! and found a place to deliver to me(or if you know they are available... found my local grocery or pet store has them. Thanks for your time,

and give addy youll probably get some coupons and a better answer-donate coupons if you can't use them.

there are a few brands you could do this with-fresh step dr elseys and a few i have seen.

maybe a half american half canadian would need to use half of each countries litter?
I love the crystal litters but at times find them stinky-especially when dumping the box...I also have alot of cats so I dont hold that against them to much
I think no matter WHEN I dump the boxes someones going to have JUST gone Have 4 soaking at moment and so my house smells to say the least. I want hot water hook up outside!!!

LOL hahaha you guys are funny...

Well I don't think they will reply to that - they have not yet which is not a good sign
I really AM thinking of emailing again just to be a goof
Sometimes I can't resist.

I will keep that in mind about the crystals stinking - I want to try a small jug... I will just grab the fresh step ones as a tester
I read if you don't wait TOO LONG to change them, they don't turn into a stinky soupy mess... I would be willing to change it out more often to prevent that if they really DO stop the stink and are easier to clean.

(( NOT that clumping litters are hard to clean or messy but I am disabled so sometimes I accidentally break clumps and then the whole box stinks like pee - and I have to change it out completely every 3 days or so. (I scoop twice a day). It's pretty tough... so looking for something a bit easier/better. If I can scoop / stir daily and then change it completely once every week, or two weeks - without stench I will be happy!

i use the fresh step crystals and love it. since you scoop twice a day the smell shouldnt even be an issue, but i would change the whole box every week/week and a half to avoid the "soupy" crystals

Thanks so much! How much is it for the jug? and how big is it?

Right now I buy 4 boxes a month (28 pounds) of clumping for 15.00 a box - just wondering how the price will compare for the crystals? I know you are in the USA but a rough idea would be handy since someone else does my shopping for me
