Is it at all normal for there to be a glare in my eyeglasses only on one side? All of a sudden last week, I began noticing a glare on the right lens of my glasses. It's enough of a glare that I believe it's causing eye strain and is very distracting. I've never had this happen before though. I thought maybe my eye is reacting differently to the glare for some reason. I just had an eye appointment after this started and the doctor said it's probably the glasses.

There does appear to be something wrong with the lens though. I don't know how that happened because I am super careful with my glasses. I'm probably one of the few people in the world that actually treat their glasses properly.

Do most places offer free repairs on their glasses? The place I bought them from says they offer only a 1 year guarantee. I got mine 8 years ago. I'm going to contact them to find out, but I just wanted to have something to compare them to.

Eight years ago? Wow! And your eye prescription has not changed at all during that time? I think I would just get new glasses at this point!

You can see if the company is willing to repair them and they may do that for you. But eight years is a very long time with the same pair of glasses, even tho you did take care of them.

It never hurts to talk to the company.

Did the glasses have any kind of coating on the lenses? After eight years it's possible that the coating has been rubbed off, no matter how carefully you clean them.

I just got my eyes checked at the opthamologist the other day and he said that I don't NEED a new prescription for glasses, but he gave me one anyway. He said I can still continue wearing the same glasses because my vision hasn't changed that much.

I have some doubts because he discovered I have a certain condition and the way he acted made me think he just wasn't telling me everything. I had a horrible experience during the exam. I was having a panic attack because he was really being thorough and anything that has to do with the eyes bothers me. I have to go back soon for a checkup and I am not happy. I told my family I would rather eat fresh cow crap than have to have my eyes examined again. So I'm thinking the doctor may have only told me certain information based on how I was reacting during and after the exam. I'm still freaking out from the exam and it's been several days. But then, I could be making too much out of everything.

Anyway, I contacted the optometrist that I purchased my glasses from and they say that they think they tossed out my records. The want me to stop by so they can look at the glasses. That's not really very helpful because now I have to make a special trip there just for that. It seems like they should be able to tell me something over the phone. Either they charge for repairs or they don't. I always thought they were more interested in selling glasses and making money than anything else.

One thing they can do is check the glasses to see how close they are to your new prescription. They can't necessarily tell you about repairing the glasses without seeing them.

8 years is the last time you've had an eye exam? eye sight changes after 2 years. You should make an appointment to have an eye exam, and get new glasses.

If your opthalmologist gave you a new prescription, you can just go get new glasses. I would. The coatings they put on the lenses don't last terribly long. My mom has 2-year-old glasses that have the anti-glare coating coming off and it's driving her crazy (and she would need to take a day off work to get an eye exam, so she can't just go get new ones). I don't get anti-glare coating but I think anti-scratch coating is standard, and that comes off eventually, too.

If you don't want to buy new frames, you can just have new lenses put in the old frames. Shouldn't cost too much.

I just got new glasses after having mine for the past two years. My prescription hasn't changed in the last 4 years. I just got another pair because with the dogs (and now the cat) I feel more comfortable having a back up pair of glasses - just in case.

My older glasses have transitions, anti glare, etc. My newer ones do not. I can definitely tell the difference between the two (anti glare) and it did cause eye strain for the first bit, but I have since adjusted and am not distracted by the glare like I was at first. Every once in awhile the glare catches my eye but it isn't nearly as bad as it was at first. If the anti glare is starting to come off your old glasses then it will take time to adjust, but you will adjust eventually. I imagine that it will be more stressful for your eyes if there are places on your lenses where there is still antiglare and places where there aren't.

A few years ago I had some sort of coating on on pair of my glasses and it was starting to wear off. I took them to where I purchased them and they stripped the coating off.

I concur with the others though about getting new glasses. If you like your frames you could just get new lenses.

The last time I got new glasses I just bought sunglasses because I wear them more often than regular glasses.

The time before that, though, I bought new regular glasses and had them put prescription sunglasses in
my old regular frames. Cheaper and it worked out well.

Sorry you had such a bad time at your dr appt.

If you have the prescription, go to zennioptical.com. They have eyeglasses for super cheap, used to be $8, now I think it's $6.95 or something. For the entire pair (frames and lenses). Shipping is about $5. I have about 9 pairs
. The quality is not bad. Not as good as $400 pairs (the pair I wear most has some paint rubbed off), but they're $6.95!

What kind of exams did he do? Some of those tests are standard, so probably nothing to freak about. I just got back from the eye doctor, and I was in there for over an hour. They took pictures of my eyes, did all kinds of other tests, put drops, etc. I think glasses are highly overpriced, and frames are outrageous. Even with insurance its costing me almost $300 to get a new pair, and that's with selecting one of the cheapest frames they had.

Do you know what the condition was that he found? If not, you should call and ask them and do some research on it. I don't think they can withhold information from you, so maybe you just feel like he was acting strangely because you were upset in general.

I hope you can get it all sorted out.
