TCS book club- book suggestions!!

Hi guys, so a lot of you expressed an interest in starting a book club so I thought I'd get started on a suggestions thread!!

The only thing to keep in mind is:

  • Make sure the book you suggest is not a new release (new releases are released at different time in different countries, and we need to be sure that the books we choose are all available to all members, including international members!

1 week from today, we will start a poll with all the suggestion we get, where all of us can vote on a book. The book discussion thread will be in the Paws and Reflect section of the forum, and we will start it at the end of March, that way all of us have a month to finish the book we choose! So make sure you check in there!!

In the meantime, keep the suggestions coming

A Dog Named Slugger by Leigh Brill. It's about a service dog who helps a woman with her day to day struggles with cerebral palsy. You can get this book on kindle.

My suggestion is Lucy by Laurence Gonzales, it's a science fiction book about a human/ape hybrid, who is more intelligent than humans and has been conceived through IVF. It's very thought provoking, and raises questions about the ethics of science and biology. I havent' read it yet but it's been in my to be read pile since it came out last year!

The Bad Seed by William March. I've been planning to read it again, it'd be fun to hear what other people think of it.

O' Pioneers by Will Cather. I started reading it (so good, so far!) and would love to have it in our book club. You can get it online if you ask at your library if they are connected with NetLibrary... and if your library does NetLibrary, then they can make you an account.

Just bumping this up... we need more suggestions!
I've been reading O' Pioneers by myself, so I might want to change my choice... not sure what, though!

The Last Child by John Hart. This boy is looking for his twin sister who vanished a year ago. He believes she's still alive and was kidnapped. He finds the addresses of local sex offenders, and stalks them believing 1 of them will lead him to his sister.

I was going to suggest Stephen King's Under The Dome, but considering that it's over 1000 pages, that might be a little much.

So instead, I'm going to suggest Robert Ludlum's The Hades Factor. Due to a deathly virus, the death toll mounts as a private team searches for the truth. Their quest leads to the highest levels of power and the darkest corners of the earth, as they match wits with a determined genius - and as the fate of the world lies in the balance.

That's also available online for direct download in various formats for free: O Pioneers by Willa Cather

I finished O' Pioneers, so can I change my suggestion to The Last of the Mohicans by James Fenimore Cooper? It can also be found on NetLibrary.

The "Prey" series by John Sandford

and

Black Water by T. Jefferson Parker
;;

Merci Rayborn, T. Jefferson Parker's stubborn, principled Orange County detective, is almost alone in believing that deputy Archie Wildcraft didn't kill his beautiful young wife and then turn his service weapon on himself. The evidence against Wildcraft--now hospitalized with a bullet lodged in his head--seems overwhelming. But Merci, who's still unpopular for exposing an old police scandal that caused the death of one cop and the ruination of others (The Blue Hour), is resisting pressure from her boss and a headline-hunting D.A. to arrest Wildcraft and charge him with murder.

Then the deputy, who's lost his memory and maybe his mind as a result of his injury, goes missing from his hospital room, intent on tracking down the real killers and managing to stay a step ahead of Merci. Soon, they both begin to realize that Gwen Wildcraft wasn't killed because she got in the way of an attempted hit on her husband--it was the other way around. Parker, whose skills at characterization are as well honed as his expert pacing and intricate plotting, has penned another standout that will keep readers guessing and gasping until the last dramatic page.

I mainly read it because I'm from Orange County, where it takes place, so I know the locations they talk about. It was a great book and the ending was definately different.

We Have Always Lived in the Castle.

This is my favorite book of all time. Shirley Jackson was a great author but many have not heard of her other than the short story "The Lottery". The Sundial is great as well.

12 suggestions aren't enough? I see some that sound good, only one, I think, mentioned is one I have read before besides my offering of the Bad Seed.
