Sweetheart, words can't say how very sorry I am to hear this news.
Enjoy your time with your girl, cherish every single minute. I'm glad you were able to find a vet to come to your home, and that your parents will be with you.
My heart is breaking for you; you've made a very difficult decision. I truly have no words right now. Just know that you're in the thoughts and prayers of many people today, and we're all here for you.
A gentle head skritch to your beloved Mackerel and a huge (((hug))) to you.

I am so sorry. I know how terrible you must feel. We are all here for you.
Mackeral, God speed little one. When you get there, find a big tuxedo cat named Max and a yellow tabby sweetheart named Speedboat. They will love you and be great friends until you see your family again.

Oh, I am so, so, so sorry about this whole thing. And then for it to be FIP. My Smudge the First had that, and he just went downhill so quickly. I don't think they are in a lot of pain, if that makes you feel any better. Lots of love to you and Mackeral.

Thanks everyone. Your words and your concern mean a lot to us.

It's 1am here and I think I might try and go to bed soon. Mackerel is EXHAUSTED and sleeping on the couch beside me- we just got back from a stroll around the lake, (I put her harness and a lead on, but I carried her). We sat on the really thick lovely grass by the bank for a while and watched/listened to the waterbirds and the crickets. She climbed up onto my lap after about half an hour and we just enjoyed some Peace with one another. She was purring nearly the whole time we were out there, and though it breaks my heart to hear her purr now (she used to purr so very loudly... it's why I chose her from all the cats at the shelter.) I know it means that she was enjoying herself. She had a real go sharpening her claws on the park bench, too. XD Nice rough wood for her to go to town on.

I cannot express how deeply sorry and sad I am for you and Mackerel that you are both going through this. You are together and Mackerel knows how much you love him and are fighting for him. I wish you strength during this extremely difficult time.

It does sound as if you and Mackerel had a lovely day. I'll be thinking about both of you, and hoping the end comes peacefully. There will be loads of TCS fur-babies ready to welcome your little girl at the RB.
My heart is just breaking for you.

I know I haven't posted, but I have been following this thread. I was excited to hear that Mackerel was getting better. I am so sorry that she has taken a turn for the worst... She is so young, I just can't believe that you are going through this. It is good to hear that you got to spend some special time together. Many vibes for you and Mackerel.

Thanks for your kind words everyone.
Mack has actually been eating and drinking a little today, and grooming a bit as well, so I've cancelled the appointment with the vet and I'm going to reschedule when it seems like she's going downhill again. For now she's happy and purring and eating and drinking, so we're going to just take it one day at a time.

I am glad she had a good day yesterday and even better news that she seems enough of a fighter for you to have some extra time together.

Here's a mystery for you, everyone.

I called my vet to talk to them about Mackerel's improvement and to ask... well, basically if they're sure there isn't anything else we can do, given how good she is today.

My friend K did a bit of detective work with the vet, and came up with a possibility of a parasite which sometimes causes extreme anaemia. They still had some of Mackerel's blood in the lab, so they did a test for the parasite, and, quote: "Found something weird." They're not sure what it is and K couldn't explain it to me, but she says that if Mackerel is still going on Friday we should bring her in and they'll run some more tests (free of charge- I love this vet.
)

You know what I think it is? I think it's the vibes! Keep 'em coming, everyone! We need all the hope and love and luck and prayers we can get.

Fingers crossed that it could be something as simple as this.

OMG that's great!

I hope they are able to find out exactly what is doing this, and that they are able to treat it!
