Poor little squirrel

Last night at 10:52 pm our camera recorded a squirrel jumping on the tree branches (I didn't think squirrel's were night animals). He was very high in the tree. I don't know if he slipped, or misjudged his jump. But he fell, went right down to the ground, landed on his head, bounced once landed, and never moved again. I saw this when I was reviewing the night. It was after midnight when I saw this. Maybe if I had been watching when it happened, I'd have been able to help him (I don't know how though). But I think he died the moment he landed on his head. Poor little squirrel.

Oh, what a freak accident, how sad that he lost his gripping. RIP little squirrel. (these babies are beautiful animals, I feed them and the birds in the fall and winter..)

Aww, poor little squirrel. I have several that live in the trees right outside my door and I love to watch them skitter around the trees. I've seen them make some crazy leaps from one tree to another, so I'm amazed they don't fall more often. RIP little fellow.

Aw, poor little thing.

I rehabbed 7 baby squirrels about 10 years ago. So I have a soft spot in my heart for them.

God bless the little one. There are lots of trees at the bridge.

I can't really fiind any sympathy. Growing up, squirrels were the biggest nuisance and threat to local birds, which we fed. We would find nests chewed up, bird feeders evicerated, and some sad images of former baby chicks. I think it had something to do with the red and grey squirrel living in the same habitat and having to compete, but squirrels were still the biggest annoyance around me. They opened up small game season early in michigan one year because of squirrels.

Believe me, it was a quick death. Poor little guy. And not sure why he would be out jumping from limbs in the dark.

This is sad. They are so agile and so quick...it's almost surprising that this could happen! Maybe it was startled by something and just lost its balance and grip. RIP.
