Is anyone interested in starting one in the paws and reflect part of the forum?? We can do a poll for the choice of a book, and then another thread for the discussion.. The idea just dawned on me, and so many of us love to read, I thought it might be fun! But, I know it will not be easy to agree on a book, but maybe we can just do bestsellers from all kinds of different genres? I personally like to read all kinds of genres, and I am open to everything...
Anyway, what do you guys think?

I'm interested but people probably won't know the books I read as they are mainly autobiographies on english celebs but I would still love to share and maybe get people to read them. x

I think a good way to make sure everyone's interests are represented would be to start a thread asking everyone to make a book suggestion, and then put all the suggestions in a poll and the one with the most votes can get to be the book of the month...
It would even be an appropriate topic for the IMO board since we would all be giving our opinions about the books, and that way with the age restriction on IMO, we won't run into issues where the books aren't "family friendly", like the cat lounge has to be..
I hope a mod sees this thread and chimes in!!

I would love to but I don't know if we would have the same books as each other it would convince me to join the library though lol

It's been tried before in the Premier Lounge, with the idea of moving it to Paws and Reflect if it worked out. Unfortunately, it petered out after a short time. Part of the problem was that some people were still waiting to get the book from their local library while others were long finished. Sometimes people who were supposed to lead the discussion because their suggestion had been picked just "disappeared" for weeks on end.
It might work in Paws and Reflect, the proper forum for anything literary, since there are more potential participants.
One thing to keep in mind is that books are often released months apart in different countries, including many e-books, so that pretty much rules out new releases.
It's certainly worth a try.

What about swapping the books when we have read them? I wouldn't mind posting a book abroad, it really wouldn't cost much a bit like our own library

I don't see why the UK wouldn't have the same books as the US. Our library here in Wellington pretty much has every book ever mentioned on TCS - but maybe because it's a capital city library, but I'm not limited even though I live in a small country on the other side of the world

I have heard loads of books mentioned on here that I haven't seen in the UK. I would be interested but some books wouldnt be my cup of tea and I try and avoid the library as I always have loads of books to read and I am unable to walk into the library and come out with just one book.

No, I tend to read a lot of celebrity autobiographies and you may not know who the celebrities are but the books are still fab reads whether you know who they are or not. I am reading Alan Carr's autobiography at the minut, has anyone not in the uk heard of him? x

It's not a question of whether bestsellers are available in other countries, but when. It's the same with films and television series. The release dates can be quite different. For that reason, the book club would have to avoid books "just released" in the U.S., because chances are that readers in other countries won't be able to get them for several weeks or months.

I'm going to start another thread where people can suggest books!
So, here is what I am thinking- we start suggesting books today, next Sunday we can vote on the suggestions- keep the poll open for a week, and then whichever book gets picked can be the book for the month of March! At the end of March we can start the discussion.
And, in the middle of March we can start the process of choosing a book for April, etc...

Should I go ahead with the thread for suggestions?? Rigel is that ok

I'm in! I read all of the time anyway, and it will be fun to discuss books with my fellow bibliophiles.

I was responding to AJ's post. I knew it would be a matter of when. Hey if we can get all these flash books down here at the bottom of the world there shouldn't be any problem in the UK
