I swear, everyone is getting sick in my house. I came home tonight and Isis has sneezed a handful of times in less than an hour, and when we played, she started making this wheezing sound. There are no boogers or excessive eye discharge, just the sneezing and wheezing. We did bring a new foster rabbit in the house, bringing the # of rabbits up to 3. Could it be allergies or should I be taking her to the vet tomorrow?

I would just take her in this morning if you can. Sneezing is one thing, but wheezing is quite another and more serious. That either means quite a bit of congestion or inflammation.

Allergies are always a possibility, but if that is the problem then she has bad allergies that need treating.

You should bring her to the vet. It could be allergies, but I think more like a cold. The only time Midnight ever wheezed was when he had a cold. The vet gave him a shot, and it worked right away.

I agree, you should take him to the vet to rule out something serious. It could just be a URI but it could be something else.

so it looks like Isis will be going to the vet today after work. we purchased a humidifier and sat with her in the bathroom last night for an hour, because she's still wheezing and will sneeze occassionally. please keep us in your thoughts, we're hoping it's just a little URI, and not allergies or something more permanent!

Vet has decided that Isis has a URI. Doc gave her an ampicilin shot, and I get the privilige of giving her clavamox twice a day for the next week. Fun stuff. Never gave meds to a cat before. So because its suspected that Isis has this URI, should I still separate her from Saki? They have been together this whole time before I took her to the vet, so wouldn't Saki already be exposed if it is a contagious thing? Should I still quarantine Isis from Saki?

Since they've already been together, I wouldn't separate them. We never have separated our kitties when one is sick. I hope that the meds work. Clavamox has the potential to make a kitty sick (throw up, diarrhea) so you might want to ask the vet for a probiotic to help with the diarrhea and watch her for lack of appetite.

To help sick kitty get better and well kitty from getting sick I would start giving both Lysine 250mg twice a day.
Ideally you should separate the cats. It's possible that the other cat has already caught the URI and will start having symptoms soon and if that happens it is possible that they will keep passing the virus back and forth.

Since they've been together the whole time and Saki isn't sick you probably don't have to keept them apart. I didn't keep Luna away from Midnight and she didn't get sick.

oh dear, I totally forgot about the potential of her becoming nauseous or anything from the meds! and I just gave her the clavamox right before leaving for work, so now if she's sick, she'll be all alone and that smell might make her sick again.... I wish my younger sister didn't get a job, it was much nicer to have her home watching everyone while I was at work...

hopefully Isis will be okay with the meds. It was tough getting her to take it this morning. I opted for the liquid version of the meds because that way I would guarantee that she would be ingesting it, but boy what that a wrestling match.

I will be stopping by the store tonight to pick up some benebac for her. I thought about taking her with me to work, just so that she could have me to snuggle and keep an eye on her, but then thought better of it.

I hope I don't come home to a house covered in vomit and diarrhea, for her sake and the other animals' sakes as well.

Hope she's doing okay.

I have one kitty who tries to make it to the litter box to throw up. How nice of her!

you're so lucky. usually I can catch her when I'm home and hold her on the linoleum in the kitchen or bathroom before she gets it up. thankfully we're going to be replacing the carpeting either this year or next year with hardwood flooring. I just worry for her little throat, with all that stomach acid eating at it.

question: since we are using the liquid clavamox, and I have to give it to her twice a day, what's the best method of getting it into her from the syringe? I try to restrain her and get the meds in her mouth as quickly as possible, but she wriggles and gets meds on her face instead of in her mouth. any advice?

It is so hard to see our fur babies sick. I wouldn't separate them either. The exposure has already taken place. I would definitely start the L-Lysine for both 500mg. Per day. Vibes for getting well very soon.
