A food funny....

I brought home some sample packs of Natural Balance: Chicken and green pea today and put it into the cat food bowls. I kept looking and no one would touch it. I agree...the smell is less than enticing...even to me!

I went to put the kids to bed and happened to stop by the laundry room where I store all of my cat food. Well...the bag of Blue - Wilderness that I bought a few weeks ago was on the floor and had been ripped, clawed, scratched, and finally opened with the food spilling out! LOL I guess the cats let me know once and for all which food they want to eat!!

Um I do think you have a winner

They often do seem to be good about that!

Glad you found something that works!

LOL! I am pretty sure I am outnumbered too! It was funny because there were all kinds of dry foods sitting there in bags - Science Diet from the shelter when I adopted the kittens, Iams sample from the vet, Blue's Purina One senior, and NONE of them were touched except the Wilderness. Apparently those life bits ARE all they are cracked up to be. I have never seen cats so excited over a DRY food!

Animals have a "sixth" sense and many will try to avoid something that makes them feel icky

Maybe they were to stuffed from snacking on the kibble from the ripped open bag of Wliderness to be interested in the Natural Balance?? both are pretty good foods though.

Haha, my boy Scotty will rip open any bag that's left out. Even kitty litter! So I can't take his word for whether something is yummy or not. He just likes ripping things, evidently. But if your kitties opened it and ate it, I guess you know what they're saying!

Put a bag of meow mix, friskies, or any dog food out and most cats will be all over it.

The Blue likely just has the stronger scented fat and powdering coatings of the foods left out. I use the NB duck and pea and have noticed that its a tad less greasy than other foods.

Mine, too, will rip into just about anything thats in a paper sack. Edible or not. I have one that will do it right in front of me while making eye contact with me. It's the darnedest thing- like he's saying "look what I'm going to do".

Blue and Rex are a little finicky when it comes to foods. Blue, in particular, has to have the smell to draw him in, otherwise, he won't touch it. At least Blue Wilderness is a decent food as compared to Meow Mix. LOL

Back when I fed kibble still, the food my cats went most crazy for was Wellness CORE.

The bag smelled like a quality Japanese sushi restaurant. Go figure.

I imagine most would. Good food or not, the manufacturers know they have to make it smell appealing to cats and dogs. So they usually add something extra in the powder coatings. This and the fat is what makes pets get so hooked on dry kibble.
I haven't tried Core in my house, far too much poultry in it - only the kittens (which are actually around a year and a half old now) could eat it and for some reason the two outdoor cats refuse any sort of grain free dry...

I tried the Blue Buffalo a while back, and they weren't interested. But now that I have started giving them natural Balance, they're after me all the time to fill up their bowls. I guess its just a preference thing
