Dukhat was my beautiful Maine Coon who died in November from HCM. He was only a year and a half.
I haven't been able to look at pictures of him until recently without feeling the heartbreak all over again. I was in Florida on vacation at the time, 800 miles away when the vet called me to tell me my cat was dying. So it's been hard. I'm trying to talk about all the things I loved about Dukhat so maybe it'll make it easier.

Things I loved:
-He was gigantic! Big beautiful Coon man.
-He whiiiiiiined melodramatically when he was hungry
-He was the dumbest cat ever! But in the most endearing of ways.
-He knew he was gorgeous, and whenever someone took out a camera/cell phone he would pose for it.
-He was OBSESSED with my bath robe. He'd whine until I sat down so he could grab it and knead it.
-He and Galen had the most epic feline bromance ever. They'd cuddle each other and groom each other for hours.

How awful for you!!! I can't imagine the pain you were suffering being that far away from you home and not being able to get there for your cat. I am sorry you lost Dukhat. It does hurt a very long time when we lose our kitties. Even more so for you, because you were away and feel some sort of guilt about now being there for him. Please know that there was no way you could have predicted your cat was going to die while you were on vacation. It will help alot to start talking about your beloved cat. And here is the place to do it and get all kinds of loving support. Grief is a process and it is different for each person. Dukhat sound like he was an amazing cat to you and I am sorry you lost him.

I can't imagine your heartache over losing him so suddenly at such a young age. I'm so sorry.

Dukhat was obviously well loved and quite a character. I got a good chuckle out of his "bromance." RIP, big guy!

What his life lacked in length, was made up for by the depth of love you two had.

Dukhat was so loved. Had he lived to 20, he would not have been more loved.

God bless you and Dukhat your
Bridge kitty and
kitty.

He was my big fluffy drama queen, that's so true. He got me through my senior year of college. I'm bipolar and when I had manic episodes he'd always let me know when they were coming. He also got me through all those rough patches before I found the right medication combination. Dukhat was amazing, so beautiful. I took him to a cat show and I got *so* many compliments on how lovely he was. He was truly an impressive cat.

I had no idea. When I left for Florida, he was fine, everything was normal. Then three days into the vacation, my roommate calls me to tell me she's taking him into the vet for trouble breathing. Then he deteriorates really quickly and two days later he died. And I wasn't around for *any* of it, I was so far away. There was just my cat, and then I come back from Florida and my cat is gone. I wasn't there through any of his illness. I miss him so much

Dukhat was loved very much. By me, by my roommate who had no experience with cats, and by Galen, his kitty one true love.

I'm so sorry that Dukhat died. He was such a beautiful cat. I promise you, even though you weren't there when he died, he knows how much you loved, and will always love him

I'm so sorry to hear about Dukhat. The exact same thing happened to me and my Stumpy cat. She was just a young kitty still, healthy and super active, and we went to Australia, and had her in a kitty hotel. She stopped eating, so my neighbour took her home, and took her into the vet the next day when she was having laboured breathing. She was immediately transferred to the specialty vet where she was diagnosed with severe HCM, and had to be euthanised the next day because she was suffering too much, and while we were still in Australia
It's a heartbreaking disease, and unfortunately just the little bit of stress of being somewhere new is all they need for their heart to go into complete failure
If you want to talk to someone who knows what you're going through, feel free to PM me.

RIP Dukhat.

I'm very sorry for your loss. It must be doubly hard because he was so young and his passing was so unexpected. RIP, sweetie, you were loved so much and will be sorely missed by your feline and human companions.

I'm so sorry that you couldn't be there when you lost Dukhat, but you had no way of knowing that it was getting to be his time. I'm sure he knows how much you love him and has forgiven you for not being able to be there. I'm sorry for you loss.

Rest peacefully, Dukhat.

I can only imagine how very painful it was for you to lose him like that, so suddenly, so young, so unexpectedly, and when you weren't there. I'm sure you grieved very hard.

It is so hard to accept and understand how something like this can happen because it is so shocking and unfair.

I'm so sorry you lost your dear, beautiful boy. He knows you loved him and he will always be with you.
