Hello! Greetings from Reading PA!
I am a single daddy of a 6 yr old and after months of begging for a pet we adopted "Orren" from Berks County SPCA.
This kitty, adopted about 2 weeks ago at 7 months old, couldn't be more perfect for us. He has become more social with us as time goes on...following us and curious, but keeps distance and does not need to jump on us why laying down, and or focused on other things such as going over homework, eating, ect..
Now Im thinking of adopting a younger kitten, maybe 12 weeks or whatever is the earliest age possible, as I am thinking Orren would want a partner for the 12 hrs a day alone.
Can this work? Can they both get along? Same food source? Different litter box I assume??
Thanx!

Welcome to TCS!

Two kittens can happily co-exist, however be aware that some cats prefer to be "only cats". Did Orren live w/ other cats before you adopted him?

I usually suggest trying to get another kitty about the same age, as they are usually around the same energy level. (Although this is not always the case - I have two 'foster failure' kitties who are 4 months apart in age - they will be 2 years old in April & August but are very different in terms of energy levels.) The general rule of thumb is one more litterbox than you have cats, so 2 cats = 3 litterboxes. As long as they don't have special dietary requirements, they could both likely eat the same food - just give them each their own bowl.

Welcome to the board! I would assume that you could probably feed kitten food for both cats for the time being. As for the litterbox thing, I have 3 cats and 3 boxes. But right now, one is seperated from the other two since she is still a new member of the household.

Would you want a young kitten or would you rather adopt an older kitten like "orren"? My 2nd cat I adopted at a year and a half the same age at my first girl and they get along so well.

With a little bit of love and patience I think you anything is possible. Lots of people here will have advice for you on how to do it

Hi there and welcome to TCS!
As you can see from my sig, multiple kitties can absolutely work.
Time and patience is the key, and there are a lot of great threads on this forum in regards to new cat introductions. Hope you enjoy your time here!

Welcome!! Congrats on your new kitty! And, yes, they can all live together happily. But the introduction has to be slow. I have five babies that all live just fine together. My Perla does have a bit of an attitude and will be the one who has a harder time accepting any new members. But I know that about her and if I ever have to add another kitty, the safe room will be used for quite sometime until Perla is comfortable

Welcome

You might want to get the new kitten closer in age to Orren. It didn't work out all that good for us.
Lynxx
was 9. Luna was 12 weeks, and Midnight was 3 weeks. He didn't like Luna, he hated Midnight. Luna loved
Lynxx
wanted to play with him, and cuddle with him. She wouldn't leave him alone. Midnight was supposed to occupy Luna. But we didn't know Midnight was so young. He was to tiny be out around the house. He'd get stepped on and hurt. He wound up stuck in my room until he grew. He took forever (5 weeks) to start growing. He couldn't play with Luna she was to big, and he'd get hurt. They were both very rough players then, and still are now. By the time Midnight was big enough to play with Luna, and be with her, and keep each other busy away from
Lynxx
it didn't matter for
Lynxx
, because died.

It's nice having Luna and Midnight be together day and night now. But right after she was spayed she calmed down. Midnight was neutered and never calmed down. He drives her crazy, because he has so much energy! He tires her out. Lately though he seems to be calming down sleeping more, which gives Luna a nice rest.

Welcome to the site! I agree that a cat a little over the kitten stage would be best - a cat from 2 yrs on maybe? Not that Orren couldn't get along with a kitten but they can be so full of energy! You might consider that just for his sanity
