Well could be worse...but hes in hospital till friday night then coming home may have to go back in sat for the day. Anyone have any "human" meters that vet recomends? he will be getting a special vet one at this point. He had the breath of a high sugar person. bringing in a blanket and then will see him few times so will change him as I go

just if anyones wondering what I saw was
breath smelling odd(last day)
1.5 lb loss while not on diet or exercising more
by waater more often

He also was sleeping more cuddled in with his buddy cats.

I've been there far more recently than I would have liked - Cotton was diagnosed with Diabetes back in August of last year. I do think have Cotton's meter and some test strips kicking around (although I have to check that - DH donated a bunch of stuff to the vet after), but I'll happily send it to you.

All I'd suggest is check that the strips are available in your area, since I'm in Canada, I don't know if you can get the brand of refill strips - it's a FreeStyle Lite meter (about the size of a stopwatch) and I found it really easy to use on Cotton. The only catch I found with it was that if they BG levels were in the dangerously high zone (like Cotton's were at the end) or the critically low zone it doesn't give you a full reading, just a warning to get to a Dr.

PM me if you'd like it and can get the refills.

he SHOULD be coming home tomorrow

urine results are looking alot better. the site has a coverage map for usa so should be able to get them, did you find these readings to be pretty accurate far as the human vs pet meter? I used a store brand before he went yesterday and it was way off-it was all i had and wanted idea

Hes not eating for them but ate for me(some in am and some in pm and hopefuully a bit later) so looks ok to send him
i thought they would have him many days. going back in a bit to "tuck him in" lol

Thanks for both your support
just got hit so hard with noah and less then 2 weeks later this...just glad it was caught early enough

I will keep your kitty in my prayers...I also have a DC. It's always a bit difficult at the beginning.

I hope things get better for you both

He came home yesterday. was visiting almost all day thursday and yesterday so barely got anything done!!!

Hes doing ok the meter they loaned me was broke so I ended up buying one at walmart(what a selection....bad! they had either meters and no strips or strips and no meters.

got a freestyle lite freedom, is that what was used on cotton? or was it just the freestyle lite?

he was 191 at vets and after hour 249 on mine. getting better at getting blood to

hes a very calm cat he knows its going to happen and goes away but easily settles. to bad they dont keep a for sale meter really. cant go bad and if its coming up on the strips expiring use them for the clinic and order a new set to go in them

he slept on our bed last night-on husbands side then to mine in am.

hes soooooooooooo happy loves his condo that is nest to a window(and easy to see where to hit him for the blood!

Yes - it was Freestyle lite Freedom. I found the strips were pretty inexpensive and it was easy to use. The strips last a pretty long time too, so one box and you're set for a bit.

I'm glad he's good about you taking the blood. I found I was so nervous the first time I did it, but Cotton was such a good boy and just kept giving me slightly exasperated looks.

I'm so glad he's home and feeling better.

I've no answers to your questions, Catsallaround, but wanted to send you and your kitty many vibes for continued improvement. I'm so glad he's home already!

I'm sure you'll receive lots of support and advice, but in case you're interested, there's a site called yourdiabeticcat.com written by a veterinarian that you might find helpful.

Best of luck to you!

Awesome
Glad I bought it...doing better at home!

I really think he needs to be down lower and going to tell her if there is other brands but more frequent I have no issues changing if this one keeps him to high.

Walmart only had a 50 ct but acme(food store) had a 100 ct for 109. Looking into offers/emailing company to see if they have any offers for my 7 yo son(hey i am not telling him hes a furry son....

Thanks for the website will go-was on another site browsing the night i brought him in to vet.

Thankfullly(?) my moms diabetic so I learned alot and used to do her sugar in bed(has many other health issues and at the time could barely get up so I would do it while she slept and go get shots for her/do them.

How often were you taking his blood? my cats getting 2 units 30 minutes after meal and for the curve(she said do it monday and once we have a handle it will be done every 3 months but I asked if we could do every month and if im going out will test him so I will feel better
was told test him at 8(shot time) 11,2,5,8pm.

I know about the looks of like mom again you poked me already what?!? are you doing. Great thing is hes a bottle baby so has only known me and is a easy cat. urine sample-no issue he pees i lift up and get sample. pills-put it on ground he gobbles it right up.

off to explore again...thanks everyone
