They bring so much joy into my life and the lives of my family. I have to share this story:

My dh has always been a "dog" person. He had his last dog for 17 years and the dog went through the death of dh's dad, his college graduation, two marriages, one divorce, and the birth of our son. He was my dh's
dog. He became an
on my husband's birthday in 2005.

Since that time, my husband has REFUSED to really love another animal. He won't get another dog for himself. He doesn't care too much for my cocker spaniel (because Rosco is not an outdoor dog) and he has never been a big fan of cats. Well...supposedly.

Since Rex came into our lives, he instantly bonded with my husband...and my husband with him. Rex likes to ride on dh's sholder all through the house and at night, dh picks up Rex and takes him to BED with him! My dh NEVER did that with Blue or Sissy and he also doesn't do it with Chloe. He doesn't care if they sleep on the bed, of course, but he doesn't initiate them going there either.

Don't you just love when someone tell you they don't like a certain type of animal only to later fall completely in love with it???
How can you resist, though? That is the joy of animals!

That's wonderful! I'm so glad your husband has found healing by a sweet kitty.

DH was much the same your husband. Was a dog person when we met, but has since become a cat person. I almost fainted the first time he called me at work letting me know he was taking Callie to the vet because "something's just not right". Now, he invites the kitties to come to bed with us and jump up on bed and stuff like that. He's totally devoted to Tumbles and the feeling is mutual.

Awwwwwww..........................
Stephanie's right - that's so wonderful that Rex has helped heal his heart!

Gary wasn't only a dog person, he hated cats. We didn't have any pets, and I wouldn't have forced one. We talked about getting a dog, but our schedule didn't really allow for one.

And then the stray came along.......

He really had no choice in the matter. She adopted us, and just wormed her way into our lives and hearts.

A year later, Gary brought a kitten inside as our first indoor-only rescue. 10 days later, in came his brother (didn't want Lazlo to be lonely after all!).
A few days after that... Gary called everyone he knew with cats to apologize for having hated them or ever having said anything not nice about them.

We love dogs too - but Gary does feel quite strongly that "dogs drool and cats rule," and would beat the living pulp out of anyone he found abusing a cat (well, any animal, really - but he'd be lucky not to go to jail if it were a cat).

Too sweet - and how wonderful for both your DH and Rex.

hahahah that is awesome!

My mom HATES cats - hates hates hates them.

When I got Kismet she grudgingly admitted he was cute but that she didn't like him.

A month later she was bragging about him to friends, how well behaved and smart and sweet he is... but she didn't love him.

Now? She still won't say she LOVES him but she plays games with him, tries to get him to cuddle her, and lastnight? she said "you are my little goober aren't you" to him.
I would say it is safe to say mom is smitten with my kitten.

I say by Summer she will grudgingly admit her love for him.

I believe that cats weren't domesticated by humans. They just convinced us to take care of them.

My mom and dad where like :confused3: when I adopte Skitter. My mom had outdoor kitties when she was kid, but they were always dog people. My dad had dogs growing up as well.

Now, my dad comes over all of the time to see the cats, not me, just the cats.
He loves them and this year I got a Christmas Ornament with the picture of Doola....lol poor Skitter

I am glad to know my dh wasn't the only one who has been converted. When Sissy died is when I first started to see his heart change toward cats. He saw that bond that she and I had as I was taking care of her in her last days and it got to him. He used to think that cats didn't love their owners. HA! Blue and Sissy and I were so close. I hope I will have that with Rex and Chloe too one day...but right now, a month of ownership is not nearly the same as 13 years! DH finally "gets" it!

when i first met my dh 19 years ago and i mentioned cats his response was 'cats, what good are they'. a few month later he brought home a 3month old white furbaby that he found in a boxcar. he works for the railroad. he's been a cat friend ever since.

My mother didn't like animals especially cats! She never let me have a cat
even though I begged for 1 my whole childhood. She allowed fish, hamsters, and a bunny. But no cats no dogs.
Even when I was little and found a puppy.
She brought him right to my grandparents, and they found his owners. A kitten even jumped into our backseat of the car, and she gave him to a neighbor.

The 2 cats I had as a child, had to live at my great grandmothers house.
It wasn't the same.
Plus 1 was very mean and ran away.
The other only liked my great grandmother, and I only saw her when there was food on the table, or when she sat in my great grandmother's lap at night.

A tuxedo named Mew Mew, was abandoned by his owners. They lived on the street behind us. Their house burned down, and they never returned for their pets.
I snuck Mew Mew inside whenever I could. My mother wouldn't let me keep him,
but she did let me feed him (that's progress). Another neighbor took him.

We found
Lynxx
in a plastic bag in the parking lot of my mother's work. Imagine my shock when she said we were keeping him. I knew she wasn't joking, she wouldn't joke like that. I thought I was hearing wrong, or entered the Twilight Zone!

Lynxx
chose my mother as his favorite, he greeted her at the door every time she came home, he waited at the door for her to get home, he followed her everywhere around the house. He was the first cat she actually patted, and talked to. She misses him now, as much as my father and I do.

My mother told me many times over the last 9 years, that she never knew a cat could be so loving. She appologized many times for not letting me have a cat when I was little.

I like all animals, but I consider myself a dog person. I've had dogs my whole life & can't see myself living with out one.

But recently, I had Lears & I swear I fell head over heels for him. Such a great, loving little kitty. I would watch a whole football game with him in my arms, just chilling & purring.

I miss that cat dearly, we still have his brother, but it's not the same. Choripan is super cool, but we don't have that connection that Lears & I had.
