Resident cat mood / weight change after new addition

We brought a kitten home about a week ago and they seem to get along most of the time. There are times they seem to fight but nothing too harsh. Our resident cat seems to like to lick our new kitten alot and smell her behind. The kitten doesn't take this very well. The new kitten just wants to chase and play and our resident cat seems to get tired of this pretty quick. What worries me the most is our resident cat isn't as affectionate as he used to be and is gaining weight. He also wont come when we call him like he used to. Should I be concerned? Will he ever go back to being healthy and happy?

I adopted another new cat recently myself. My older cat is 14 and the new one is 2-3 years old. They get along fine and the new one Rasta even grooms my older cat Ricky. Ricky has been acting different though. He doesn't sleep with me anymore and doesn't come to greet me in the morning like he used to. I've had the new cat since Christmas but sometimes it takes them awhile to adjust (months in fact). I don't know the answer but I'm hoping he'll return to his old self eventually. He still greets me when I come home and I try to give both cats the same amount of attention. Cats are just weird sometimes and it takes them time to sort things out.

I'm suggesting you take your resident cat to the vet. Just incase something is wrong with his health. That happened with our cat Lynxx. Everything that was going wrong with him, was blamed on the new kittens, by our original vet and us. When he was actually sick. The kittens just happened to come here, right as his illness really kicked in.

Also Feliway really helped Lynxx. You should try that to.
