After being turned down by quite a few rescues because we have an intact dog I posted an ad on Kijiji last night with some VERY specific requests as to what we were looking for in a cat and stated that we wanted an older kitten or full grown cat. I got TONS of responses; quite a few of the rescue groups that initially denied us, people that wanted to get rid of their cats and insisted that they would be good with dogs even though they hadn't been around them, cats that weren't up to date on shots and hadn't seen a vet in years, etc. We also got an email from a very nice gentleman that had been given a kitten a year ago by his friend, he found out that he wasn't really a cat person but was committed to keeping her unless he found the right home. We exchanged emails all day and we went to visit her tonight. We ended up bringing her home with us

I can't for the life of me remember what her name is though - Liki, Linki, something like that. I'm sure it says on her vet records which he gave us. She has been spayed, is up to date on her vaccinations (they're due again in August) and was declawed
. His friends that breed siamese had her in the litter, the rest of the kittens looked like regular siamese but she had a different pattern and they didn't think they'd be able to sell her so they gave her to him. She's quite the adorable kitty, she's exploring the apartment right now and I'm giving her some space. If she gets playing with me later tonight I'll try to get a few photos. He sent her with all of her toys (she has a HUGE collection), enough food to feed her for at least a month, tons of treats, her litter box, a mat for under her litterbox, her carrier and a little tunnel thing that she likes to lay in. He did warn us to keep the top of our fridge clear because she likes to jump up there and knock things off, lol. I suppose she gives us more of a reason to clean up after ourselves very well now
He also said that if for any reason it doesn't work out that we can bring her back there.

The dogs are in their crate for most of the night now, when we take them out later we'll put her in the studio so they don't freak her out. We'll take introductions slowly so we have the best possible outcome, but I think everything will be fine. She's so pretty, I just love her already

She has settled in really well and quickly, I think we really found our perfect cat. She comes up to us for pats already and she's started snuggling with me a bit when I'm laying on the couch. I showed her how to get from the couch to the window still so she can look outside without actually being able to go out. She loves it up there and has been there for about 1/2 hour so far. The jump from the back of the couch to the window sill is only about 2 feet, considering that she's used to jumping onto fridges, I don't think she'll have a problem with jumping up to the sill.

We really want to send the man that gave her to us a thank you card and a gift card to somewhere - obviously we don't know him at all, but he does have a small dog. I was thinking a gift card to Petsmart, but we're just not sure how much to make it for. She came with well over $150 worth of her stuff, plus she's spayed and up to date on shots. Any ideas?

Congratulations!
Can't wait to see more pics!

I think the gift card is a great idea. You may also want to think about a gift certificate to a website such as amazon.com where he can buy pet products, books, anything really. Either way, it's a really kind gesture!

We've now had her for over 24 hours. She has really settled in and I believe we have a new pack order, lol. Sadie (mini dachshund), Leiki (kitteh) and Fynn (standard dachshund, the biggest of the bunch, lol).

We ended up introducing them last night. We put Leiki in the studio (basically our spare bedroom where Mike records music and has all of our guitars, banjos, amps, etc) with a very low baby gate at the door way. The dogs respect the gate and won't jump over it, but Leiki can easily jump it - and does, lol. Anyways, we put her in there and then took the dogs straight outside to pee. We brought them back in, Mike held Fynn and I let Sadie loose. She went over to the gate and sniffed a bit, Leiki looked through the gate at her, then Sadie walked away. Next we let Fynn go up to the gate with his leash on, he can be a bit intense so we wanted to make sure that we could get him away quickly if Leiki appeared to be frightened by him. He sniffed at her and she went to the other side of the room. We took him away for about 15 minutes and then brought him back, she was more interested this time and sniffed at him a lot through the gate. We brought Fynn back to the living room and let him off his leash and made him stay in the living room. We played with the dogs for a bit, then allowed them to go over to the gate. Leiki sniffed at them a bit more, then we called them back to the living room to cuddle with us while we watched TV. She came out on her own about 20 minutes later and started chasing Sadie around, they would take turns chasing each other, then would stand side by side for a little bit before Leiki would touch noses with Sadie and walk over to Fynn. She would walk over to him and swat him in the face, then walk away, lol.

Shortly after that we put the dogs to bed and went to bed ourselves. This morning we let them out and then let them go in the apartment, we still have the gate up in the studio (the dogs aren't allowed in there unless we're in there) but she didn't bother going in unless one of us was in there. She's now touching noses and will stand beside/rub up against both of them. They all played fetch together earlier this evening and she really seems to be bonding with them.

She's so weird, lol, she acts a lot like a dog
