Problems with neighbors cat!

Hi all, i didn't know if this was the right place to post or not but im having problems with my neighbor's cat, he/she keeps coming up to my front porch and peeing everywhere! The stench is so bad! My neighbor has about 5 cats all of which are allowed to run around the streets in all weathers, i live in canada and it's been pretty cold yet she still just chucks them out. The thing is, i just moved here 11 months ago and i really dont want to make enemies on the street so i am reluctant to tell her about the peeing kitty.

The cat peed all over my sons stroller and rain cover! I mean yeah maybe i shouldn't of had it outside on my porch but i have limited space inside and its just a convenient place to put it. It is really embarrassing when the post man comes, he must be able to smell it. What can i do about this problem? Is there a spray or something that makes kitties stay away? Iv never had a problem like this before. Oh and an update on fable, we got her spayed before xmas and she was back to her normal self within a few hours. She is now less aggressive towards stella but i know they will likely never be friends.

Anyway thanx in advance

I'm sorry, I don't have a real answer for you, but I do feel your pain. I take it these cats aren't neutered?

We have this problem with tom cats that come around (they're barking up the wrong tree here!) and pee on my front door. You open it and the smell just hits you. This just spurs one of my fixed boys on to spraying in the house...

As to the stroller - that material seems to be a spray magnet to some cats. My own cat has hit about every canvas item in this house (porta-cribs, my husband's golf clubs, my daughter's guitar case, etc.) I suggest a VERY strong enzyme cleaner to get rid of the pee from that. Probably keeping the stroller inside is the only way to keep it from getting hit.

Until these cats are fixed, they're probably going to keep this up. Are there other neighbors who might sympathize with you and go with you to talk to the owner of the cats?

I feel bad for you, and I feel bad for the cats. What happens when they do this to someone not so kind and understanding as you?

Thank's for your reply, yes this is a very tricky situation. I just hope i can get this problem solved by summer otherwise the smell will be overwhelming in the heat lol. I am assuming the kitties aren't neutered because one of her other cats used to come into my house all the time and he wasn't neutered, he was so skinny i used to feed him but i haven't seen him around for the last couple of months, i hope nothing happened to him.

I dont talk to the owner of the kittys much, she seems a bit stuck up, she lives in a lovely big house yet for some reason can't afford to spay/neuter her pets, it makes me sick
I haven't made many friends here yet, the neighbor on the other side of me would never put up with peeing kitties, i might have a word with him and see if he has had any problems.

Anyway enough of the rant lol!

Talk to the neighbor, then talk to animal control. Chances are if the cat is peeing on your porch that it's pooping nearby, too. Which, if you have a bit of yard, becomes a health risk if you let your child play outside (toxoplasmosis). Maybe that will get the city to do something.

I only suggest that you go through legal methods so as to protect yourself from any legal issues.

Thanks strangewings, i didn't realize this kitty might be pooping to, i havent noticed any but then again theres a crazy amount of snow out there right now it would be impossible to see. Iv noticed this kitty in my back yard as well as the front porch, i hope he/she isn't pooping in the back yard.

If she's in the yard, she'll have pooped. If you have any sort of dug up/tilled dirt, or plan to come spring, she'll be all over that.

It's a problem that people who let their cats roam free outside never think about - that they're greatly inconveniencing their neighbors and putting children (pregnant women and those with lower/supressed immune systems) at risk. But then I don't think the majority of people care about their neighbors…

Good luck. Your neighbor will probably not be happy that you're bothering her, so maybe take someone with you.

I too (in Canada) have this frustration with 6 neighborhood cats. *sigh* they spray the outside of my house and it stinks like hell. Talking to the owners in my area is pointless - it gets us nowhere.

Out of frustration I have removed all plants outside. I put WOOD and CHICKEN WIRE down on the grass and dirt everywhere I could. I have also grated (with a normal grater) and chunked (just cut up ) bars of zest and coast bar soap. I sprinkle it around my yard , ESPECIALLY up near the spray areas. This seems to have helped last summer - they avoid it due to the strong smell, or they walk through it and then lick their paws and make the connection due to the smell. PLUS it covers the god awful stench left previously.

This summer I am going to go out with the damn black light and spray chemical cleaner on the spots I find near the windows.

I can relate so- so well. It is frustrating... and maddening. *sigh*

Now it is winter and there are piles and piles of cat poop that will need to be cleaned up when the snow melts. *sigh* you can bet it won't be THEM cleaning it out of my yard either.

Oh wow that is awful you have had to go to such great length's to stop the kittys doing that, i really hope that i don't have to go to so much trouble. Once the snow melts i will be checking my yard for poop to and will have to try and talk to the owner of the kitty and see if it gets me anywhere, i doubt it though! I can't believe how inconsiderate other cat owners can be, i would never let my kittys poop and spray on other peoples property. Disgusting!

There is a product called Ssscat, it's supposed to keep cats away. We bought it to spray our door, to keep Luna from trying to get outside. We haven't used it yet. So I can't say if it works or not. We also use orange peels. Luna is repulsed by them, and won't go near them.

I could never afford to use an ssscat outside They are about $50.00 for the system, and then $15.00 per can refill of air which doesn't last all that long .... + batteries (4 triple A). EVERYTHING that MOVED would set it off... I can't imagine using that.

I found my soap method works - the smell is quite strong so they tend to avoid my yard all together. I buy the soap from the dollar store.... and it lasts quite a while. Probably not the best for the grass but at this point I don't care. lol

The unbearable stench is just so overpowering - I did try about 10 other remedies, including citrus which did not work one bit. Nor did the chicken wire. etc.

There is a motion sensor thingy that will spray too - you hook up to your outside spout but that would just attract kids - which in my books would not be cool

Will let you know this summer how my soap goes. See if it works a second year in a row.

In all the years cats have sprayed my house, I have yet to run into cat poop - in the yard or anywhere on the property. I never got the feeling they were using us as a litter box so much as they were marking territory...

I'm lucky, my neighbors cats are neutered. They do pee (squat), poop a lot, and seem to like hacking up their hairballs onto my front porch, though.
