I've always thot that when we go away overnight & leave Lucky, that when we get back, he is friendlier. Lucky is only 9 months out of a colony & we've had him all that time (was already 6 mos old when we took him).
Well, we were gone overnight last weekend to visit & check on my dad. This week, he has (1) begun to get on the couch, between us, with no lure of catnip, but just for pets & brushes, & companionship for his naps!!! He seems suddenly to reallly like to hang out there, with us. This is BIG we think.
AND (2) last night my daughter & son-in-law were over for the Superbowl. (We've always kidded with them about sending some used clothing ahead of time, preferably underwear, so Lucky could get used to them.) WELL, with no clothing sent ahead, Lucky came out from under the bed, and into the family room (I think he wanted to cheer for Green Bay), and my daughter easily lured him over to her with bits of chicken, him eating it out of her hand.
My son-in-law, who she calls a cat-whisperer anyway, (they currently have 4) lured him over to his chair with NO chicken, and had him standing by the arm of the chair checking him out, then getting lots of pets. He even rolled over in enjoyment. (Lucky, that is). WOW.
I never dreamed he would socialize so rapidly. I am so happy! He is almost a normal, cute, friendly cat now.
The only thing left is lap-sitting, I think. If possible...
