I have a new kitten, a little over 3 months old. the lady i got him from says that he has never been outside. although the mother cat had a cold and all the kittens got it and died, except for this one.
he has a runny nose alot. not all the time, usually right after he gets up from sleeping or laying down, he will sniffle. and sometimes it makes him sneeze. should i be worried?
i have scheduled a vet appt, but i would like to get an idea as to what may be going on. i tried looking it up online, but all i could find was stuff like feline luekemia and AIDs!
:/

he doesnt have watery eyes or anything like that either. just the nose

It could be a lot of different things, but as likely as anything is feline herpes. It can be treated quite well with L-Lysine. Your vet probably stocks some in a tube, or you can crush up the tablets you would buy in the vitamin supplement area of a pharmacy. It apparently doesn't tast bad, and most cats don't mind it at all.

However, your vet may prescribe a course of antibiotics, too, just to kill what might be affecting him.

It could be a cold, or he could even be allergic to something. It's good that you are taking him to the vet, to get him checked out.

Be sure to have the kitten tested for FeLV/FIV (feline leukemia and feline aids)

If the vet appointment you scheduled is not in the next day or two call the vet back and get the kitten in sooner. Kittens can go downhill fast, especially considering his litter mate deaths.

I hope that poor mama cat has been spayed by now.

As the others have pointed out, he probably has a URI (upper respiratory infection), though it wouldn't be surprising for him to be carrying the herpes virus. That's very common among rescue kitties. L-Lysine is something many of us provide as a supplement to our cats. We buy powdered, and just sprinkle it onto their food. It helps boost the immune system, and especially for kitties with herpes, it helps prevent colds and URIs.
If you're going to buy pills to crush, find the one with the least number of additives and fillers.

Sometimes when they get stuffy, it's hard for them to smell their food, and they stop eating. It is REALLY important to keep kitty eating. You may want to steam up the bathroom really good with running hot water in the shower, and bring kitty in there. It'll help the runny nose. And you may have to use a stinky food - a fishy Fancy Feast, heated up the microwave, will often do the trick.

for your little baby!
