When I bought my conventional bed a year ago last November, I bought a 9" box spring, and one of those pillow top mattresses with a 4" pillow top.

When the sales guy asked me what kind of frame I wanted (wheels or no wheels), I picked the one with wheels so it would be easy to move my bed.

Unfortunately, the wheels added about 5 inches to the height of the bed. The bed set up that I looked at in the store is the one I bought, with the exception of the type of frame. The sales guy didn't tell me that I could adjust the height of the skid frame, but not the one with the wheels.

As a result the bed when on the frame was literally up to my boobs! And I felt like a 1 year old when trying to climb into it. Getting out was equally as difficulty because it was about an 8 inch drop to the floor and I had to turn over onto my stomach and wiggle my way to the edge and then off. No sitting on the side of the bed for me!!!

Prior to my surgery I had my brother take the bed off of the frame to make it easier for me to get in and out. Without the frame the bed is the perfect height. I can get in and out easily, and I can sit on the site of the bed.

I asked my brother in September if he wanted the frame. He said he did. But days became weeks, and then months. It was still sitting in my bedroom taking up a wall and blocking my way to my closet.

Last night I decided to post it online. I figure if my brother really wanted the frame, he would have picked it up by now without my having to hound him about it. Someone contacted me yesterday evening and came by this afternoon to pick it up.

It was a $200.00 bed frame that I used for 6 months. I sold it for $25.00 just to get rid of it.

Hopefully by spring I'll be able to buy my iron bed. I think the frame height on it is about 4 inches.

That reminds me of my 1st pillow-top mattress set--I had to do the same thing! I did use a step-stool eventually (I'm only 5 ft tall, so you can imagine the wiggling and gymnastics it took for me to get in and out of bed!).

I eventually got used to it, though. I sometimes use that bed--it's now the guest bed--I use it when I get sick, & don't want to keep DH up all night. I have no problem with it nor the queen sized version in the master bedroom.

Despite all of this, I LOVE pillow-topped mattresses!

Congrats on selling yours!

We don't have an iron bed, but it is steel--and very sturdy.

Hehe...I had a similar problem when we bought our mattress and boxspring a few years ago. Not quite that bad though. I've gotten used to it now. But when I was pregnant it got difficult again. I had to slide out of bed and roll onto it.
