Hello All,

I have several feral cats that I feed in my shed. I have a camera and dvr that I can watch whenever there is motion in my shed.
One of my feral cats ( snowball an all black male cat ) has been gone for a week now. He usually will be gone for a couple of day, but this is the longest he has ever been gone. Usually he is waiting around 5 pm for me to come out and feed him. He has been with me for 2 1/2 years.

Is this normal ?? I am getting worried.

Thanks

I know it is hard not to worry about them but this can be pretty common with ferals. Dixie sometime disappears for days and I get very concerned, but she is quite reclusive and rarely shows herself to me anyway. I know you said sometimes Snowball is gone for a few days at a time. Maybe wherever he goes for those days he is staying a bit longer. Have you had bad weather like I have? He could be holding up somewhere. Or it is getting towards Spring and maybe he is roaming looking to mate. Is he neutered? All of my ferals I try to trap and get TNRd. Are yours all fixed? If not, this could lead them to disappear for days at a time. I am sure Snowball will come home soon

If you are getting the blizzards we've been getting, maybe Snowball is staying put some where, waiting for the weather to clear a little bit before he comes back home. I hope he comes home to you soon!

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Some of ours are here twice a day, some are here every day, some are here for a few days in a row, then not for a few days, and some show up every once in a while. Some only come during good weather, some come when it's been bad weather.

If you're up north, any possibility he's snowed in somewhere?

Any discernable patterns?

Come Home Snowball!

One of my two ferals/ barn cats (Ruby) has just returned today after a 4 day absence. This is the third time she's done this and, you know what, it's always related to bad weather. We've had really high winds for 3-4 days, before that it was the December snows and before that it was a deluge of rain. It's almost like she's holes up somewhere and waits the carnage out. Her 'friend', Little Cow, seems to enjoy these absences as it gives her the run of the farm. And, as such, I probably could have guessed that Ruby was back this morning by LC's renewed submissive behaviour - she's now given over her Happy Hutch to Ruby and is eating from a covered area nearby (4ft away). Thankfully I have ordered another Happy Hutch

Anyway, wishing you the best for your Snowball. Do keep us posted.

btw, forgot to give a big thumbs-up to the initial poster for having a cam set up to watch the cats. If/ when I adopt more barn cats, that's one of the things I plan to do. Wish I'd done it last time so that I could have not only avoided identification issues but also worked out which one of them nearly wrecked the shed trying to get out during their 3 week acclimatisation ....

No it's been almost two weeks and no snowball. We have a couple new cats that I have never seen before. Only saw them each one though.

Right now I still have the three that are regulars, but still no snowball. I call for him every night. It just makes me soo mad that people do this to animals. If i could i would take them all inside, but my house already has six rescued cats.

Prayers for Snowball to come home. I had two ferals, Ranger and Hosta for a couple of years. Now that there are no female ferals, they are gone.

But down the road, there is a guy who lets loads of cats sleep in his garage. I like to hope they are down there.

So maybe, he just found another place to hang around. Im so sorry he has gone.
