So today I was sitting at the desk doing paperwork. My husband walks in the room and calmly says, I need to go the the doctor or the E/R. I jumped up and saw it, the treble fish hook with one of the hooks sunk into his finger past the barb. He was fishing in our pond and was trying to get a firm hold on the line so he could release the fish. So we spent awhile in the Urgent Care. I waited in the waiting room. When hubby came out, his finger was all bandaged up and he was holding a little bottle. As I got under the steering wheel, I asked him what was in the bottle. Turns out, he wouldn't let the doctor cut the hook so she could push it out the other way. He told her he wanted to save his hook. So she used forceps and snatched out the hook. He got a tetanus shot and an antibiotic prescription. Now he is good to go.
What an afternoon.

I love how men are so calm about that stuff. My DH called me from work one day to say he was going to the hospital for a big splinter. I was thinking, "what a weenie, the hospital for a splinter?" but when I got there it was like a 2 foot long gash (he's in construction and some big piece of wood fell and slammed into his leg just right and got stuck in there). To this day he downplays it, "it was nothing, should have just yanked it out!"

I'm glad your DH saved his hook and hope he feels better.

Oh my goodness! I cringed when I read your post.

Just like a fisherman....save the hook or bobber no matter what.

I hope he is doing ok now.

All that to save a 25 cent hook?!?!

That's the first thing I would have done is push the barb through and cut it off! Men can be so weird at times!

Actually he said it was about fifty cents. However it was a treble hook and a very small one. They are extremely hard to find. Nonetheless, my last thoughts would have been about saving the hook.

Glad he's ok, but yeah I wouldn't risk anything to save the hook. Hand injuries are actually a big deal, as you can end up with numb fingers if it gets you just right.

Not all guys "take it like a man" btw. Took a buddy of mine to the range, and he wasn't too familiar with firearms unlike his claim and let the slide catch the top back of his hand. No prob, took the gun and was going to get him cleaned up, but he saw his blood start running a bit and had less composure than your average eight year old girl... and a slightly higher shrill at that!
