Extreme ear wax, is this normal?

Midnight always had a lot of ear wax. We brought him to the vet all the time to have his ears cleaned. They showed us how to do it at home. We're now cleaning his ears more and more often. Like twice a week now. His ears are clean, then like 2 days later all that wax is back, and there's tons of it. I'm not trying to gross you guys out, but it is very gross. He's got so much wax, I don't know how he even hears us, when we talk to him. Is this normal?

I don't think it's ear mites, the vet would have said so, all the times we brought him there to have his ears cleaned. Plus Luna's ears are fine, if Midnight had ear mites, wouldn't she?
