Sunday morning I got a call from my favorite SIL who mentioned that their dog Chewie was hit by a van driven by their DIL as she was driving out of the farm yard after doing chores. She was 14 which is old for a dog esp a farm dog. A little beagle with all recessive traits that she loooked like a dachshund.

A great huntress on the farm she was chasing something when she was hit.
The vet didn't want to put her down as he thought she could recover.
But her age was against her and her injuries more severe.

She loved going for rides in the truck over to their pond or she would jump up on the back of the 4 wheel ATV and would go for rides too. I gave her many rides over the years. She needed help last year as she couldn't jump as well anymore.

She will be missed.

Oh dear, I am so sorry. Ms. Chewie is such a sweet name.

I hope the DIL does not blame herself. So many things can happen on a farm with dogs.

God bless that sweet old gal. And my sympathies to her family.. It's so hard to loose an animal like that.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
She had a long, full life! Clearly she'll be very missed.
Many vibes to her family, I imagine this is very hard on DIL.

Enjoy romping over the bridge, Ms. Chewie!
