Not sure what is going on so i thought i would ask if anybody has any ideas. My cat is about 11 years old. Has always been a house cat and never outside. She is not around any other cats. She has never been sick, runs and plays allot. About two weeks ago she started limping a little and stopped drinking and kept her tongue out all the time. I took her to the vet he did blood work and x-ray. He showed me the x-ray and showed me her leg was not damaged and all her internal organs were fine. Her blood work showed she was healthy just dehydrated. So he gave her an IV to hydrate her and a antibiotic shot and a anti-inflammatory shot. I took her back 4 days in a row and he did the same thing each time ( a very through check). Each time he and his co vets said they could find nothing wrong. On day five he gave me 14 days worth of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medicine. Its 7 days in and she is still limping her tongue is still out and she seems to have no energy. She will eat twice a day when i give her soft food but she has not drank water in about 11 days. Her mouth is moist and her skin is tight so i think she is getting enough water in the food but she is not well. Any ideas?

Thanks for any advice or help

How much wet food is she eating? I know you said 2x a day, but how much total?
It might be time to take her for a second opinion at a different clinic...

She is eating 3oz at a time so about 6oz a day with a teaspoon of extra water each time. But she will not drink water. She still goes to her litter box.

How much does she weight? Is she eating all wet or some dry too? Where I want to get is that it might be enough water for her... The more a cat eats wet, the less it drinks water... I can see it very clear here in my house...
When I was feeding my cat Hope 100% wet, she didn't drink water either. Lucky on the other hand, who eats all dry, drinks a lot... Bugsy drinks in between.
What concerns me most is her behavior though...

She weighs 8lbs. She use to eat dry food and drink alot of water. I would give her soft food as a treat ( she would eat the whole can and beg for more but now i just give her half if i give her any more she will just look away). But for the last two weeks i have only given her soft food. When she limps it does not seem like her leg is hurt more like her foot pad. Maybe she jumped on it wrong or somthing. She keeps her tongue half out all the time and purrs with her mouth open. She went from eating, drinking and playing two weeks ago to Just wanting to lay down and not move.

Not drinking water comes from the changing of diet - she is getting plenty. She was eating before when she ate dry an wet, but now since you are feeding all wet and adding a bit of water into it, it makes sense she is no longer thirsty. Probably a very good thing you did for her.
About her leg, IMHO you should seek a second opinion - sounds like she is in pain... Someone needs to get to the bottom of this, and if the first vet didn't, on to the second you go.

I am sorry your cat is not well. I would take her to vet specialists. Get another opinion. If the skin is tight she is still dehydrated. You are adding water to the wet food? Chicken broth could be added too. Poor baby and this is hard on you too but you need to get an answer.

Im giving her 3oz of wet food in the morning and 3oz of wet food at night with a teaspoon of water added each time. The vet told me if you gather up her skin like you are pinching it and if bounces back when you let it go she is hydrated. But im not sure what is going on, the more i think about it im starting to wonder if she has a sore throat. She never kept her tongue out before but know she will not keep it inside. Also i donâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t know why she will not drink water or eat hard food. I think i need to take her for a second opinion even though the vet i took her to seemed very professional and was recommended by a couple of co workers with pets.

She may not want to eat dry food if she's got dental problems or something wrong with her mouth. I sure hope you find out what's going on. I'm sure you're worried to death! Hopefully a fresh set of eyes on the situation will be able to reveal something.

I totally understand. I lost my girl at the end of December. She & I had been together for 12 years and she was my heart.

Ask the vet to also do a urinalysis just to rule out any kidney problems. Did the vet mention anything out of the ordinary on the blood test? It might not hurt to have another one of those done. Ask for the senior blood panel.

Also, you might want to have an x-ray done to check for arthritis or some other something going on with that leg.

Be sure not to give her any Metacam. Too many risks with that, especially for older kitties.

The vet did not do a urinalysis. The only thing the blood test showed was that she was a little dehydrated but everything else was right as it should be. She did get an full body x-ray which showed nothing wrong. I think a second vets opinion what i may need because there is for sure somthing wrong.

Just a quick update. First of all i did not mention before that i live in Japan. So it’s 12:00 (noon) Thursday here. Momo ate her dinner last night and took the medicine also ate her breakfast this morning and medicine but seems to be no improvement. She still is keeping her tongue out like her mouth or throat hurts and favoring her left rear foot. I have a Vet appointment for her 9:30 Saturday morning for a second opinion. She still is using the bathroom and cleans herself before she lays down. She does not seem to be dehydrated but still not drinking water.
