my one cat after she gets done with her "buisness" she does the normal covering but then she will scratch at the sides and top of the covered litter box including the flap for like 30 minutes just wondering why she does that and another one will meow while he circles it finally he will go in and then he jumps and does circles after he does his buisness when he coveres it and sometimes before he covers it he will do it and i meen its fast ultra fast digging and like full run speed in circles (which is why i had to switch from open to covered litter boxes cause he would dig out all the litter on the floor) but then he ambushes the other cats on his way out in full play mode...just curious why they do that and i have 2 queens and one king

I found the text in this book spot on, but the illustrations aren't helpful at all. Good over all book

This mat caught my eye because of its size and texture, which traps fine litter rather well. It's large enough for jumbo litterboxes, which is also a plus. It's not quite as easy to clean as a...

This scoop was a freebie with some clumping litter I bought last year, and I like it so much that I've bought a second one. It's perfect for fine clumping litter, which it sifts very thoroughly....

I'm not really sure why they do it either. My female does the scratch for 30 minutes thing too. We say she's trying to get to China that or she's super efficient.

Those are all normal litterbox behaviors. Cats are very strange about their litterbox habits, mostly because they bury their feces in the wild to avoid detection, so that instinct is usually brought out in more creative ways when their lives aren't on the line. Some cats will take naps in their litterbox, some sprint in and out trying to avoid anyone seeing them, and others will scratch forever. My roommate's girlfriend's cat will kick enough litter out of the box to roll around in, then proceed to do that for 10 - 15 minutes. My kitten will watch my other cat from 10 feet away, then run up and jump into him as he leaves the box. I think it's all just fun and games to them.
thats good to know he was the one i was concerned about just by the way he does his running around in circles at light speed and i have never seen a cat do back flips in a covered litter box i meen its quite a site to see ive been worried that he was in pain had him checked and he was alright but he doesnt do it all the time just at night around 10:30 - 11 he uses it 2-3 times a day but the early morning 5-6am and the night one 10-11 is when the "tornado" hits the box afternoon hes fine just hyper after and chaces and play fights with the other 2

Oh, that's too funny! Well, not really.. but this is why I joined this site almost 2 years ago! My Genever does the scratching/digging/scratching the sides and top and everything in the litterbox for a long time, 15 minutes or so. I thought she was abnormal, so I asked about it here. But no, i have subsequently learned that all cats, including mine, are abnormal in their own little ways, which is why we love them.
Thing was, at the time, the litterbox was in our bedroom, and she would wake us up with the prolonged scratching....
We've since bought a house, with the litterbox in the spare room... hooray! In the daytime I can still hear her though, so I know she still spends a LOT of time scratching and digging... oh well, that's my G-cat.

Yes it's all normal
My Rosie digs to China, then wipes her paws on the wall or the sides of the litterbox for ages afterwards. I always know when she's on the box because of that.
Jack's a digger as well, but Sophie's does dainty digs

Oh yes... I have had cats that do the same sort of "after use" litterbox ritual. In fact, my wall actually had scratch marks

. Perkins claws at the rugs or the litter mat after he is done. It is always bunched up and I know it was him who went
