My cat was only 6...

My cat passed away on Jan 29, 2011; he was only 6.

He was rushed to the hospital in Dec 2010 when he developed blood clot on his left arm. The doctor said the prognosis wasn't good and he would've support us if we decided to put him down. We didn't give up on him so we took him home and nurtured him back to health. His condition improved, and we thought he'll live for at least for 1 more year.

Few days ago, his conditioned worsen and couldn't breath. We took him to the hospital and the doctor said if this was his cat, he'd put him down.

We decided to put him down. I was feeling fine, partly because I was accompanied by my mom, sister, and my friend. I probably didn't realize what was going on at that moment when I signed the paper.

Now, reality sets in and sadness is starting to creep in. I feel guilty. I can still remember the look on his face when he was on the oxygen mask.

I know there is nothing I can do to change the fact. I just hope that he's happier now.

I'm very sorry for your loss and that you were forced to make such a tough decision. A peaceful and painless death is the last loving gift we can give our fur babies. RIP, little one.

Guilt is part of the process of grief. You did the right thing, even though it hurt so bad. Thank you for letting him go. Bless you as you travel the path of grief- may it be a short journey.

There is no better way to honor the memory of a lost friend than to look back with a smile. I hope you can reach this point and come out the other side of your grief.

You did the right thing....we all have second thoughts.

He knew he was loved.

God bless him and you.

Sweetie, you did the most unselfish thing and ended the suffering of your beloved baby. May he rest in peace.

The Bridge cat we feel worst about is Truman, who was truly Dottie's "heart cat." He cuddled next to her ever night. He, too, suffered a blood clot and died after several weeks of struggle. I honestly think we let him go too long.

It never feels good to end the life of a cat we love; that wouldn't be normal. All we can do is know that our only desire was to help the cat when he needed us to make a decision he couldn't make.

There is nothing more difficult in our lives with our cats than having to make that final decision. Guilt is part of that too as we always question a decision like this. You made the right decision for your beloved cat to end this life with dignity and peace, and now he is free from all pain because of you. Your cat knows how much you loved him and cared for him during this last year. You were a great meowmy and in time you will smile again with the memories of your beloved boy

I'm so sorry for your loss of your beloved little boy. You gave him that Final Gift of Love, a release from pain and suffering. It's sometimes the most important act of love we give them. I'm so sorry.

I'm sorry your cat was so sick, and died.

That's much too young. It's especially painful when they go young. You did all you could, and loved him a lot. He knows this and will never leave you.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry for your loss. It's so difficult to let them go when they're so young, but you did what was best so he wouldn't suffer needlessly. I'm sure he loves you for not prolonging his suffering. Rest peacefully, little one.

Thank you everyone! I've read through most of the articles stickied on this board, and they helped a lot!

I'm starting to collect all the photos and videos of him and prepare an album.
